jy1128 Posted April 10, 2011 Report Posted April 10, 2011 Need 2 rooms for 2 nights from 4/21 to 4/23. I used your link and your strategy bid up to $150 and rejected. My acceptable zones are MTE, MTW, CPS, TS and ESB. It has 6 rebidding zones.Should I wait for a few more days and bid again? What is a reasonable maximum bidding price for these dates? Thanks a lot for your help!
thereuare Posted April 10, 2011 Report Posted April 10, 2011 Rates this Easter-season in NYC have been extremely high, and at current rates, it will likely take substantially more than $150 to win a 4* hotel in these zones. What is the best rate you're able to find at an acceptable hotel for these nites? Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your bidding. jy1128 Posted April 10, 2011 Author Report Posted April 10, 2011 Thanks for the reply. It seems that I can get a 4* hotel near time square for $317 by HOTWIRE. Shoud I try for 3.5 star hotels too?
AaronJB Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 At the 3.5* level, a concern is the MTE area, which has a couple of possible properties that are far East in MTE (the Millennium UN and Hilton Manhattan E.) The 3.5* Hudson in the CPS area also has rooms that are smaller than normal (and rooms tend to be small in NYC.) If 3.5* is acceptable, I would recommend consideration of 3.5* properties, but rates are definitely high and it very well may also take more than $150 for a 3.5*.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
buteos Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 I've been bidding for a one night stay 4/20-4/21 in just about all the NY zones except Coney Island, Brooklyn, airport zones, and Queensborough Bridge. Down to 3 stars , and I've gone to 115. I've checked the regular hotel sites, and any property with decent (under 250 dollars) prices are showing no availability. The prices I've seen are mind blowing, especially for a Wednesday night. It's going to be tricky getting anything decent.
jy1128 Posted April 15, 2011 Author Report Posted April 15, 2011 Bid up to $225 for 4 star in all midtown zones, and got rejected. Tried 3.5 stars again and bid up to $190, also rejected. What about downtown? how much should I pay for downtown?
thereuare Posted April 15, 2011 Report Posted April 15, 2011 What is the best rate you're currently above to find thru conventional booking chanels... the HOTWIRE Times Square property is no longer available. :)At the moment (and this can change quickly in either direction rather quickly) it looks anything in the Manhattan at the 3.5* or better is going to cost you $300+.How about staying across the river in Hoboken or Jersey City... great 4* hotels, easy commute to Manhattan via PATH train, and probably ~$200/nite for your dates. You do lose a bit of the 'city feel', but i'm sure an extra $100/nite can help you do some memorable things in the city you might not otherwise do.Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. jy1128 Posted April 17, 2011 Author Report Posted April 17, 2011 There is an 4 star hotel in ESB from Hotwire for $329. I tried midtown zones again using your link and bid up to $300, and still rejected. I think I also tried 3 stars up to $230 and rejected.Tried Jersey City for 4* and bid up to $190 and rejected. What else should I do?
thereuare Posted April 18, 2011 Report Posted April 18, 2011 With just 3-4 days before your stay and rates very high, i think you need to find the best deal you're able thru conventional booking channels (or the $329/nite HOTWIRE hotel)... us a discount to this as your bidding limit, and see if you can beat that deal. If not, then take the alternate deal (or the $329 HOTWIRE hotel... which is well reviewed with a 4.5/5.0 TA rating and 95% user recommended)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know what you decide and how it goes or if we can be of further help.
