naturefly Posted March 20, 2011 Report Posted March 20, 2011 Need some suggestions on which area is best to stay at and bid on PL for Toronto & Montreal. We do have a car while in town but would like to stay somewhere that is convenient to do the sightseeing.Which bidding zone should we bid to pay less on hotel parking fee but yet close of the attractions? We don't mind using public transportation to get around town.TIA.
thereuare Posted March 21, 2011 Report Posted March 21, 2011 You don't state which attractions you intend to see/visit, but most likely one of the Downtown zones is where you're looking to stay (especially if looking to use mass transit), and parking fees of the hotel you will ultimately receive will not be known. You can choose to look at HOTWIRE, which is usually a little more expensive then PRICELINE, but also often shows an approximate parking cost range for the hotel being offered in the "know before you go" section for each hotel offering. As well, note that if you don't need in/out privileges, you'll likely be able to do better then what the hotel charges by finding a public lot nearby. Please start separate topics for each of your stays and include the date(s) of your travel, your desired budget per nite and your desired star rating, we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. naturefly Posted April 9, 2011 Author Report Posted April 9, 2011 I've tried bidding today for 2 nights downtown & convention center, gone up to $90 for 4* and up to $85 for 3.5*, using 3 free bids and up my bids by $3-5 each time.No luck :) . Is that a busy week in Montreal that hotels are more expensive??? I'm trying to keep my budget down to around $90 before tax but not sure if I want to go down 3* yet. Any suggestions?? TIA
naturefly Posted April 9, 2011 Author Report Posted April 9, 2011 I forgot to add that Hotwire is showing $123 for 4* & $114 for 3.5* ( for 2 adults & 1 child). So I don't think I'm that far off with my budget.
thereuare Posted April 10, 2011 Report Posted April 10, 2011 You're probably not that far off, but in some areas, and at times, HOTWIRE is not that much cheaper then HOTWIRE. Your bids are still about 25% below HOTWIRE prices, and it's not uncommon to see a narrower difference between the two. Also, it appears you'll actually be triple occupancy, i assume you're aware that PRICELINE only guarantees double occupancy and after that it's at the discretion of the hotel. This is a risk you're willing to accept? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. naturefly Posted April 11, 2011 Author Report Posted April 11, 2011 I've tried again today but still no luck. Up the bid to $95 for 4* and $90 for 3.5*. I'm hoping that I can call the hotel after winning to request for 2 beds or a king size. I've had luck with hotels won in the U.S. via priceline so far to honor this request. Do you think that this will be a problem in Montreal?
AaronJB Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 There is no guarantee with PRICELINE and two beds; it really varies by hotel and can vary by other factors (date, city - NYC is particularly tough w/2 beds.) While hopefully the hotel is willing to work with you, you do have to prepare for the possibility that the hotel is unable or unwilling to work with you on two beds - or may charge more if two beds usually go for a premium. Best of luck on your next round of bidding.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
naturefly Posted April 12, 2011 Author Report Posted April 12, 2011 Finally won the bid for InterContinental Montreal for $99/night. The retail price is around $187. Do you know what the parking fee is for this hotel? There's no mention of the price on their website. Will call them later to request for 2 beds. Hoping that this will not be an issue.
