Hi,

I'm travelling to Washington with my partner in May for 3 days (as part of a big vacation). We're from Australia and have never visited the States before so would like to stay somewhere central to see all the sites. I'm thinking of Dupont Circle, Georgetown or the Penn Quarter areas but am happy to have any suggested locations!

I have no idea what sort of starting prices I should be trying for 4 star hotels in these areas though. I haven't used Priceline much but would like to try our luck...do you have any suggestions on starting prices at this time of year/locations?

Thank you so much for this website/forums...it's fantastic and has made our travel planning so much less stressful!

Kind regards.

To avoid any confusion, please use the names PRICELINE uses to describe the zones/areas you're interested in... which zone encompasses the "Penn Quarter" area?

The most frequently bid zones (in no particular order) typically are:

Convention Center-Capitol Hill

Dupont Circle-Woodley Park

White House-Downtown

Let us know regarding which zones you decide and we'll advise accordingly.

Hi,

Thanks for your replies and apologies for my lack of info. I guess we're really not that fussy in terms of location but if I had to pick, my order of preference would be:

1. Dupont Circle-Woodley Park

2. White House-Downtown

3. Convention Center-Capitol Hill

I probably dont want to spend too much more than $100/night and no less than 3 star but I have no idea if this is achievable? I've recently booked NYC accommodation which seemed very expensive so I'm seeking your advice as to where I should start my bidding from!? Is Washington much the same prices as NYC...I hope not!! If I'm way out on $100 for a 3-4 star then we'll have to re-assess and go from there!

Thanks again for this site.

Cheers

I think your budget should be ok at a 3* or higher... but i also think you can probably get a 4* hotel for $100 or less... do you want to try for that first OR would you prefer to pay less for a lower rated (3*) hotel? (although i'll add that i don't think the lower rated property will be much less)

Let us know and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow.

Thanks THereuare,

If we could end up getting a 4* for $100 or less that would be great so I think we'd like to try for that first. I guess I can just limit it to $100 and if not successful then can start again with 3* properties.

At the 4* level you have SIX re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.

Select 4* Dupont Circle, White House and Convention Center...

Bid $70, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $75, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $100

Any questions feel free to ask.
