For 6/3-6/6 in San Diego:

Bidded $130 for a 4 star in downtown

Bidded $140 for a 4 star in Coronado

Bidded $130 for a 4 star in Coastal

No bids were accepted! (Likely due to the San Diego marathon that weekend...?)

The marathon could certainly be effecting demand and creating higher rates, but a <very> quick search for the following weekend doesn't yield much better rates/availability... perhaps seasonality factors are also a contibuting factor? (although maybe i just chose a 'bad' weekend to check).

HOTWIRE does have a 4* listed in the Coastal zone for $153/nite which appears to be the Estancia La Jolla Hotel and Spa... not sure how that would work for your plans. Of course you also try a little higher on Priceline and if not successful take this offering.
