$165

$177

4* 4/9 - 4/12

$135 - got a counter offer for $175 at this point.

We're going to try it again tomorrow and will post back our results - as of now it seems very pricey!

I noticed that yesterday the "best value" was on the 4* hotel and today the "best value" symbol was on the 5*. Also, the median price that priceline lists for hotels next to the bidding box was lowered from $414 to $358 today so I tried $177 for a 5 star again, unsuccessfully.

One other trick I've used in the past is to only change my dates and bid again. I plan to be in Barca from 4/9 - 4/12 so I changed it to 4/9 - 4/11 so it lets me bid again and I've noticed that in the past priceline usually gives you an option to extend the stay either before or after the proposed dates. In this case I've been unsuccessful but will update how my bidding goes going forward.

Thanks,

The 'Best Value' and median prices shown by PRICELINE are often not accurate and i wouldn't factor this information into a bidding strategy.

This can be risky if you're not willing to change hotels during your stay. Note that even when PRICELINE offers the 'extend your stay' option you won't always be able to do so, PRICELINE can give one of three responses:

1) extend your stay at the same rate

2) information that a room is available but only at a higher rate (and you're given the option of accepting or rejecting the offer)

3) no availability

However, when you don't have much time left to bid again, as you don't in this instance with only 4 days to go before your stay, it can be a viable strategy.

Do you have a back-up reservation/plan?

Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board for your bidding and purchases.

Good luck on the next round of bidding.

PS- if you didn't, please read your messages. THANKS!

Thanks for the reply! I finally bid $236 for a 5* in La Ramblas and it was accepted. Definitely more than we wanted to spend but given that hotwire was showing a 3 1/2* for $189, figured might as well get a 4* for an extra 40.

We got the Le Meridien for $236 + tax from 4/9 - 4/12
