Hi,

after booking the Delta Chelsea in Toronto as written in the Hotwire Canada part of the forum I am now searching for a 4* hotel in New York City.

I was once in New York City and the Times Square area is the place where I'd like to stay. I know that there are cheaper and also beautiful areas in other parts of New York but I'd like to stay there.

So here are my facts

4* star Times Square Area or Midtown West (3.5* is also possible perhaps Marriott Marquis)

10/12/2011 - 10/17/2011

Budget: 175$ per night ex tax

What do you think? Is that a realistic price or do I have to pay more? Perhaps someone can tell me about his own experience?

Best regards

Mario :)

I'm doubtful that $175 will be enough for this time of year... seasonally one of the most expensive.

If you'd like to give it a try anyway, did you first want to try for a 4* in the MTW and TS zones up to $175... or is your goal the least expensive 3.5* or better in either of these two zones?

Also, i did read that this is where you want to stay, but i'll add a link to our thoughts on Hotels Near Times Square for anyone else following along :)

Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.

Let us know regarding the star ratings above (and please confirm that both zones are acceptable at both star ratings) and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow.

Both Zones are acceptable but I'd prefer a 4* hotel. I can raise my budget up to 200 $ per night. What I didn't know was that this time of the year is really expensive.

If 200$ is not enough than I have to change the star level.

While based upon current prices at this time i don't think $200 will be enough, a LOT can happen between now and October... economy slows down, bookings come in slower then expected and rates drop, etc, etc. (of course the opposite can occur too and prices can go even high from here).

So while i think your current chances are somewhat low, it's still worth trying, but i wouldn't drop your star rating just yet (but i would consider other nearby zones if you're flexible in this regard)

Are you willing to bid as high as $200 at this point in time?

Let us know and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow.

just to give you a short update:

I started bidding on the TS area.

Startet at 145$ and added 6 rebid-zones up to 185$.

I think I still have much time and I will try it again and again and in a few days I will add MTW because this is also acceptable for me.

I think I'd like to get the Marriott Marquis because it is directly located at Times Square.

Thereuare have you read my PM?

I am really happy that I found this site and of course I always use the PRICELINE link.
