anysunday Posted April 2, 2011 Report Posted April 2, 2011 I am booking a room for my niece and her husband June 2-7. Prefer in Chelsea for an event, but nearby areas like MTW, ESB, TS are fine. Soho wold also be good for them but looks like the downtown area can land you all the way downtown which is too far.I started with the PRICELINE link at $100 for 3*. that of course didn't work. I've been adding zones at $5 increments and now am at 120, where Priceline timed out and said would have a reply in 15 minutes.any views on what $ rate is going to be likely?
AaronJB Posted April 2, 2011 Report Posted April 2, 2011 While Summer (although Summer being more starting in late June) is often a slower period, unfortunately rates do look on the high side for these dates on both regular rate and HOTWIRE. What would be your desired budget per night?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
anysunday Posted April 2, 2011 Author Report Posted April 2, 2011 Don't mind going to 150 or even 175, but not sure I want to pay the higher rate for just 3*. so I will keep going til I hit 150 at 3* and see what happens.or should I be starting at a higher bid for 3.5* or 4* and work from that direction?
AaronJB Posted April 2, 2011 Report Posted April 2, 2011 Hopefully it won't take $150; it may take $130-140 at the 3* level.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
cousintim Posted April 3, 2011 Report Posted April 3, 2011 anysunday, I hope that you will post your bidding experience and results. I also am interested in the Chelsea area later in June. Thank you.
thereuare Posted April 3, 2011 Report Posted April 3, 2011 anysunday,At the moment i'm guessing it will take about $165-$190 for a 4*... $155-$175 for a 3.5*... and ~$150 for a 3*.Based upon these figures, what star rating would you want to try for and what maximum bid would you like to use? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. anysunday Posted April 3, 2011 Author Report Posted April 3, 2011 Still no luck after waiting 24 hours and going thru the bids again. this time I started at $130 and went up to $155, all at 3* and above. I began with Chelsea (preferred location) and added ESB, MSG, Midtown West, and TS. did not want Downtown since that would put my niece into Club Quarters at WTC. I also checked Hotwire, looks like that part of June is going to be tough. the only hotels for under $200 nite at 3* had poor locations. Checking your Hotwire list these looked to be Murray Hill East, Bentley etc. those are too far east and not worth the 170-180+. Hotwire did show what looked to be the Intercontinental and Grand Hyatt for around 210. a decent value but still much higher $$ than I'd like (:meanwhile per another post here I checked QuikBook and found this "Secret Sale" listed: a claimed 3.5* "boutique" on Fifth Ave for $147 nite ave. that would be a great deal if I could tell what it is and if truly 3*. the description says it's on "Westside of Midtown near Grand Central," so that would put it on or near Fifth in the low 40s/high 30s. Amenities listed include restaurant, fitness center, lounge/bar, and wireless in lobby. Any guesses?
thereuare Posted April 4, 2011 Report Posted April 4, 2011 I don't know the ID of the Quickbook property as most NYC hotels have the amenities listed.HOTWIRE does have what appears to be the Holiday Inn Midtown 57th St if that would work for your plans at all. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. anysunday Posted April 9, 2011 Author Report Posted April 9, 2011 OK I finally gave in and went with QuikBook. thought it was going to be the Shoreham, which looked attractive at the $147 price and a good location. turned out to be the Mansfield, on W 44th near Grand Central, as the description said. also a good location. don't know the hotel but as long as there are no bedbugs and not too noisy late at nite or early AM, then it's a good deal.still surprised that I could not get a 3* on Priceline for $155.
