RanchMom Posted March 30, 2011 Report Posted March 30, 2011 San Antonio Resort; $125; 3/19/11Hyatt Hill Country Resort & SpaTip:Double Check "RESORT" along with "Hotel Star Ratings"I used a similar bidding style and got caught in an area I didn't intend. I was trying for a 4* or 5* on Riverwalk. Looked at other areas in Priceline Maps that had NO 4 or 5 star hotels listed w/ priceline (for new bids inside 24 hr), like Shertz and Lackland... added Lackland because it had no 4 or 5 Star properties listed enabling me to raise my bid $5. But, instead of the raised bid getting me a Riverwalk property, I was awarded a "RESORT" property off the 1604 outer loop. The Resort Properties are not included in the Star ratings on the Priceline hotel list on "area maps", it is a separate category of lodging you check at the bottom. The Hyatt Resort was a nice facility but FULL of families with lots of small children running around due to Spring Break; and, it cost me a $160 roundtrip cab ride to the Riverwalk. There was an additional $30 in resort fees upon checkout that were not included in the Priceline cost. I've learned a costly lesson. I travel often so I'll use Hotwire next time and stay tuned to Betterbidding for the latest info.
thereuare Posted March 31, 2011 Report Posted March 31, 2011 Thank you for sharing your results with the board.Sorry to hear you received a hotel in a zone that you didn't expect, but as you now know, the star rating you select is the minimum you're willing to accept and PRICELINE can always upgraded your 4* bid to a Resort class property (as Resorts are higher rated than 4 stars)Hope you were able to somehow make this work for your needs.Feel free to ask fro help and/or confirm your bidding strategy, or confirm a HOTWIRE hotel, before your next purchase. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
