Hannahrae Posted May 2, 2005 Report Posted May 2, 2005 Hello! I am so happy to have found this board (seems to be much more friendly than another site I came across)!! I will be traveling to New York City, Thursday 6/8 thru Sunday 6/12. I will be staying with a friend at least 2 nights out of the 4. My question is, do I have a better chance obtaining a lower hotel rate on let's say Thursday and Friday vs. Friday and Saturday? My preferred area of Manhattan to stay in is MTE (like the Grand Hyatt) but open to other zones. I would like to keep my budget for a 3 or 4 star hotel between $140-$160. Thank you in advance for taking the time to help me!!!
thereuare Posted May 2, 2005 Report Posted May 2, 2005 Welcome to BetterBidding!Generally speaking better rates are easier to come by on the weekends, however, a quick look at rates for your dates appears to have little difference. Are you flexible in which two days you stay at your friend's place or are you waiting to hear from him/her as to which days are convenient for them. Hannahrae Posted May 2, 2005 Author Report Posted May 2, 2005 Thank you for the warm welcome and quick reponse! I am flexible. I can even break up my two nights into 2 different hotels... as I am traveling alone (will be a different story when I come back to this board later this year to travel with my two young daughters) and meeting up with childhood friends there that weekend (celebrating our 40th bdays!).
thereuare Posted May 2, 2005 Report Posted May 2, 2005 Not too sure how successful you'll be up to $160... but so we can put together a strategy, what are the other zones you're willing to accept? Hannahrae Posted May 3, 2005 Author Report Posted May 3, 2005 THank you again for your help with this! I'm basically willing to stay anywhere in Manhattan... MTW, MTE, Midtown South/Times Square area/SOHO-downtown. Because of the ease of getting anywhere , in Manhattan, and traveling alone and meeting up with friends... I am open. My order of preference would be:MTEMTWMidtown SouthDowntown/SoHoUpper midtownafter that it doesn't matter!
thereuare Posted May 3, 2005 Report Posted May 3, 2005 One last question... are you sure you prefer the Downtown location over UM/CPS? I'm not sure where you'll be spending most of your time, but Downtown is usually one of the least desired zones.Have you seen this thread: NYC ZONE DESCRIPTIONS Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
Hannahrae Posted May 3, 2005 Author Report Posted May 3, 2005 opps... you are right I would prefer upper eastside then upper westside before downtown (last). Thank you!
