eurotravel Posted March 28, 2011 Report Posted March 28, 2011 First the particulars. Travel dates are arrival 5/6 and departing 5/12. My budget is about $125.00 but this is not etched in stone. I am looking for a 4* hotel in multiple zones.Last fall I followed a strategy that I saw on this board but can't remember it exactly. I selected 8 zones, broken into two groups of four. The strategy had me bid on different iterations within each group. After each bid I would close the Priceline session, come back to this board, go back to Priceline for the next bid.My brain isn't functioning tonight so I can not seem to get the groups set up so that I can get the maximum number of bids for each group per day. Thanks for any help you can give me.

thereuare Posted March 28, 2011 Report Posted March 28, 2011 You might have a chance at getting this entire stay at one hotel within your budget... did you want to try that first to avoid having to change hotels OR do you prefer to split the stay in hopes of some additional savings? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. eurotravel Posted March 28, 2011 Author Report Posted March 28, 2011 My preference would be to get one hotel for the entire stay but I am not adverse to splitting the stay - that worked out well for me the last time.
thereuare Posted March 28, 2011 Report Posted March 28, 2011 Please use the PRICELINE links on the board each time you access their site (and HOTWIRE too)Please click this PRICELINE link and reply to this thread, well then suggest a strategy for you to follow.Thanks. eurotravel Posted March 28, 2011 Author Report Posted March 28, 2011 When I click on the PRICELINE link it takes me directly to Priceline - but I have no strategy. What 'reply' are you waiting for?Did you want to go to Priceline and just bid $125.00 on each of my zones? I would rather not start a $125 but it would be OK if I ended there. I was looking for the same strategy that I used last time where I broke the zones into groups of four and then bid on each group. It was something like a tree if you will, i.e.AABACADBABCBD etc. Maybe this was all there was too it.

eurotravel Posted March 28, 2011 Author Report Posted March 28, 2011 Thank You! Thats what I was looking for. Makes my head spin trying to put that together on my own. And, yes, I did remember the part about closing the browser on a failed bid and reaccessing PRICELINE from from a link on this page.

eurotravel Posted March 30, 2011 Author Report Posted March 30, 2011 Yesterday I followed your bidding strategy (see topic "London Bidding Strategy") and bid on dates 5/6, departing 5/12. When I hit the $100 mark I received a counter offer of $125.00 and my bid would be accepted. I tried to bid around this by adding Wembley as a free rebid at $110.00 with no success. I know that my budget was $125.00 but I didn't want to go there my first day out so I stopped bidding.Today I decided to split my stay into two parts - 5/6 thru 5/9 and 5/9 thru 5/12. My reasoning was that I would have better luck getting the weekend at a good rate. I did this my last trip to London and actually liked it. You get to experience two different neighborhoods. On my second bid of $80.00 I received a counter offer of if I "raised my bid to $110.00 I could rebid now". I decided to go for it. This is what I won. :) Marriott Regents Park 3 nights $110.00/night (total $370.00 with taxes)Their "advanced purchase weekend rate" is $532.00 for this period so a savings of $162.00. Not great but nothing to sneeze at. Looking at other 4* hotels for this same weekend it could easily be a $300.00 savings. My only concern is that this hotel is a little far out. I like to explore so it will be an adventure. Thanks for all of you help. I will report back when I have success with the second half of my stay.
eurotravel Posted March 30, 2011 Author Report Posted March 30, 2011 I tried to edit my original post from $110.00 to $100.00 and this is what I got. :)
thereuare Posted March 31, 2011 Report Posted March 31, 2011 Congratulations on your (partial) success!Glad to see you're happy with results and deal you received for this leg of your stay. eurotravel Posted March 31, 2011 Author Report Posted March 31, 2011 You missed my correction where I stated that I won this hotel with a $100.00 bid and not $110.00

brianc_li Posted March 31, 2011 Report Posted March 31, 2011 I stayed there last weekend on a priceline stay. Its a nice place with good size and well equipped rooms. The staff were courteous and efficient. My only criticism would be that the outside of the place looks a bit tatty. It is a little bit out of the central area but there are still plenty of shops, bars and restaurants in the area. Its also only a couple of minutes walk from the tube which is on the Jubilee line. From there it is five minutes or so into central London.
