Hello Everyone.

I am visiting New York for the first time for a 2 night stay May 6th thru 8th. I am hoping to use Priceline bidding or looking at Hotwire also but not sure what areas would be the best. I am thinking about (TS), (MTW) as my 2 first choices. I am not sure about (MTE) or other areas because I don

Hi Nate

Until a moderator helps, I found a backup or two in your price range for your dates if you are a member of Marriott Rewards (if not consider signing up, as they have pretty good, cancellable, deals...).

Renaissance Hotel 57 http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/nycb...-york-hotel-57/ $169 per night pretax. This hotel is actually in CPS zone but a nice neighborhood, less than 5 minute walk to subway at Bloomingdales. We spent two nights there last year on a Priceline win at substantially less than $169.

or

Courtyard Midtown East, regular rate for your dates is $169. http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/nycm...n-midtown-east/ I believe that's also only a block or so from a subway line.

Neither of those hotels is too far east, so they might work for a backup.

I'm using one of those hotels as a backup, and I'll be watching your thread as I'm also looking for your dates, we're going May 4th-8th. Good luck.

Welcome to Betterbidding. :)

The MTE zone is a very nice area, although a few hotels are a bit far E in MTE (they are the 3.5* Millennium UN & Hilton Manhattan East, as well as the 3* Beekman Tower). The 4* level in MTE is fine. TS is generally the most expensive zone, as well.

Another regular rate listing would be the W New York, which is 30% off on Expedia ($160), plus coupon MAR10 takes another 10% off ($32.06) off the total.

Thank you for your Help. I was looking at the W for the 160 thanks for the code. I think i am going to try using priceline for the first time. It is my understanding that i can rebid by adding zones and stars. As long as i stay with a 4* when using MTE it sounds like i should be ok. I guess my only issue is i am not sure what bid i really should start with. I was thinking i would start with around 140 or 150 in the TS MTW witha 3.5 and 4* Can anyway say if i am on the right track on the bidding?

Thank you

Yes, if your first bid is rejected you can bid again by adding other zones, but you don't want to add zones strategically and not just 'any' zone. Two things before you're ready to bid:

1) you need to understand re-bidding, which is detailed here: Priceline Re-Bidding Explained. At the 4* level you have SIX re-bid zones... at the 3.5* level you have FOUR re-bid zones. lease read the previous link and ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board.

2) it's not totally clear to me from your post above... exactly which zones and star rating are you willing to accept? At first it appeared that you only wanted a 4* hotel in the MTE zone... but then you mention staring in TS and MTW for a 3.5* and 4* property. Exactly what are your parameters for this stay?

Thank you for the help. I am looking at 3.5 and 4*. If i could get a deal in a great location near TS i would look at a 3* also. My main area i want to be is around the TS area and close to subway. I would alos really like the Central Park area if it is convenient to get to all the places a first time visitor would want to go. So I was looking at TS and MTW. It seemed MTW is a great location alittle outside TS and could possibly get closer to Central Park also. I would look at MTE or any other zone really I just dont want to end up in an area that is kind of out of the way.

Thanks for the Help.

At the 4* level all of these typically work well for the average user. While i know at the moment you want to be close to it all, once you're here, you'll find that via subway everything (in midtown) can pretty much be considered close. If you want to get someplace and it's within 10-15 minutes then you walk it, if not, you hop on the subway and can usually be there within 10-15 minutes... with the mass transit system, or taxis when needed, nothing is really 'too far'.

I'm actually more favorable now on the Times Square then i have been in the past since they have closed off areas of the street to traffic... it now makes for a place to sit with a cup of coffee, as well as reduced congestion on the sidewalks. With this noted, there are still areas i consider to be far more interesting.

Given the $160 rate at the W New York i would suggest bidding for a 4* hotel in the following zones with a $160 limit:

MTE, MTW, CPS, TS and ESB

... or was there some reason you opposed the W New York?

Let us know and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow.

Thanks for the Help

Those areas sound great. I plan to start wortking on my bids tomorrow on priceline. If you have any suggestions or stategy you might feel is the best i would love to hear it. I like the idea of bidding up to 160 and then going with the W if i dont get anything on those bids.

Also does anyone know anything about the Fitzpatrick Grand Central Hotel? I see it listed for $179. I am just thinking of secend option if need be. Would someone recommend the W or the Fitzpatrick?
