severin Posted March 28, 2011 Report Posted March 28, 2011 hi, i'm trying to get a 4* in the Times Square area between june 16th and june 22nd. i've read into the rebid-strategies and i researched prices on normal booking sites as well as the calendar of wins to determine that 200 - 220 USD should normally make it work. when i look on priceline, i see 6 zones with no 4* hotels available (Brooklyn, Coney Island, Long Island City, MSQ, Queensbrorough and UES), these should be available rebid zones, aren't they?so i should be able to try the following:160 Times Square170 + zone 1180 + zone 2190 + zone 3200 + zone 4210 + zone 5220 + zone 6am i right about that?thanks in advance for your help, and just to let you know, of course i use the links provided in here to get to PRICELINE...
thereuare Posted March 28, 2011 Report Posted March 28, 2011 Welcome to BetterBidding!I'd first give this thread a read which is our thoughts on Hotels Near Times Square... it's ok to bid this zone, but it's really not necessary to restrict your search to just this one location; most midtown zones typically work out well for the average user. When you only bid one zone there are a limited number of hotels available to accept your bid, so tough to say if $220 will be enough or not, especially for a 6 nite stay... one inflated nite within the range can easily effect whether your bid is accepted or rejected. You do have your re-bid zones correct, but you should always double check them before bidding.I would bid slightly differently:Select 4* Times Square...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150If the above is rejected wait 24 hour and re-try:Select 4* Times Square...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $180, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $185If the above is rejected wait 24 hour and re-try:Select 4* Times Square...Bid $190, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $195, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $200, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $205, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $210, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $215, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $220With your stay 10 weeks away i would sooner increment by $5 then $10. You can go thru the bidding above in just over 2 days so still plenty of time to re-group and think about what you want to do should the above be rejected.HOWEVER, as per above, i'd consider other midtown zones (in addition to Times Square), but ultimately it's your trip so you need to be happy with where you end up staying. If you do decide to include other zones i'd revise the strategy above somewhat, so just post back if that's what you decide. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. severin Posted March 28, 2011 Author Report Posted March 28, 2011 thank you for your response. we have chosen the times square area less because of the actual area, but more because of the hotels which have been reported to come up on priceline (and i know that there could be a new hotel anytime). in other areas there are simply hotels we wouldn't want to get. but we would consider the chelsea area as a possibility. in that case i could triple the tries? like do the bidding process for TS, then do the bidding process for chelsea and then do the bdding process for both of them?
thereuare Posted March 29, 2011 Report Posted March 29, 2011 Did you want to start by only bidding for TS or is your goal the least expensive 4* in either of these zones?I'd also raise the issue that if there are that many 4* hotels in the surrounding areas that you wouldn't want to stay at, then perhaps HOTWIRE is a better option for this stay. It may cost a little more than PRICELINE, but you'll be able to take a guess as to the hotel you may receive before your purchase as well as see the percent of previous HOTWIRE guests who recommend the property offered. This would open up a lot more possibilities to you for this stay. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. severin Posted March 29, 2011 Author Report Posted March 29, 2011 The goal would be to get the cheapest 4* in either TS or Chelsea. thanks again for your help!ps: i've had a look at HOTWIRE today and will probably look at that again if PRICELINE doesn't yield the results we hope it does.
thereuare Posted March 29, 2011 Report Posted March 29, 2011 At the 4* level you have SIX re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* TS...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Chelsea...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* TS and Chelsea...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $180, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $185, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $190, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $195I'd start with the above, if rejected let us know and we'll revise to try again in 24 hours. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how it goes or if we can be of further help. severin Posted March 29, 2011 Author Report Posted March 29, 2011 hi, i tweaked the starting points a little and got up to 215 USD with TS and Chelsea + all available rebid zones. unfortunately, still no luck... i think i'll just try this strategy for the next few weeks and look around for other possibilities...thanks again for your help!
