x_calibur Posted March 28, 2011 Report Posted March 28, 2011 Hi,I'm looking for a hotel (4* or 3.5*) in NY for 3 nights end of June and wanted to use priceline. As I'm new with these things (and also new in the forum) I could need some advice.I read a lot about priceline but there are still some questions left. One of the most important is, does the star rating I've chosen meet my budget? To be more concrete: The hotel I'm looking for should be located in ESB, MTW, MTE, TS or MSG. My budget is apx. 150$/night. Is this realistic for a 4* (or 3.5*) hotel end of June? And also - should I bid now or wait a few more weeks? Thanks in advance
thereuare Posted March 28, 2011 Report Posted March 28, 2011 Welcome to BetterBidding! At the moment rates for these dates are probably just beyond your grasp... i'm guessing ~$165-$185 (before taxes and fees) for a 3.5*-4* hotel for these dates. However, June is the start of the slow season in NYC so i would start with your limit at this point and hope for lower prices in the weeks ahead. Of course the risk that rates can move higher from here instead of lower, so if you're concerned about this happening it's a good idea to book a fully refundable back-up while you continue to bid (check our support page for links to most major hotel chains and online agencies)Also at the 4* level is there a reason you're not including the CPS zone in your bidding as this area usually proves convenient for the average visitor to NYC. At the 3.5* level note that CPS may not be as good as it contains the Hudson Hotel, which while hip/chic, the rooms are notoriously small (even by NYC standards) which may or may not influence your decision to bid this zone at the 3.5* level depending upon your needs and hat you're looking for from your hotel room for this stay. Lastly, at the 3.5* note that some hotels in the MTE zone can be a 15 minute walk to the subway, is this acceptable? If you're ready to begin bidding, let us know if you're willing to pay more for a 4* vs. a 3.5* OR if your goal is the least expensive 3.5 or better for this stay? Also, did you want to bid up to your $150 limit at this point in time? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
