There is no way to guarantee a non-smoking room unless you purchase a HOTWIRE hotel which is showing the Smoke Free icon. You can call the hotel you receive and make a request, but some hotels are more receptive then others in taking such requests, and may just tell you to request at check-in and they'll do what they can based upon availability.

Fortunately for those who don't want a smoking room, more and more hotels are switching to 100% smoke free. However, even those properties which still offer smoking rooms, many don't guarantee non-smoking rooms when booking direct, stating that it will be a request and they'll try to accommodate.
