I'll also recommend hot Doug's (which is definitely unique in what they offer - you can see the current specials here: http://www.hotdougs.com/specials.htm) and Superdawg. Flub a Dub Chub is also good for burgers/hot dogs (http://www.flubadubchub.com/) and easy to get to on the North side. One kinda unique option is the Vienna Beef Factory Store/Cafe (http://www.viennabeef.com/cafemenu/), so you're literally getting hot dogs right from the factory. I haven't tried that, but interesting idea. A ways away, but I also like the Brat Stop just over the state line, in Kenosha, WI, where you can get - for breakfast, a brat patty with egg and cheese on an english muffin. There's a lot of different hot dog/burger places in Chicago and around the area. I haven't eaten there, but Max's Take-Out is supposed to be good for hot dogs, if you're looking for something that's practically right next to the Palmer.
