Hi! I was so excited to find this website as I was about to bang my head up against the wall trying to plan a family vacation. I've used priceline and hotwire (which I can also post about my results in the appropriate forums but they were from new years and summer last year is that too long ago?) but always for just my husband and I, whereas this time I'm planning on vacationing with my mom, dad and sister. From reading the forums, it appears that I should use hotwire due to the fact that the four of us would like to share a room.

So, here's what we're looking for:

Monday 5/23 - Saturday 5/28 (5 nights)

our budget is $150-$200 per night

We'd prefer to stay in MTE, MTC, Times Square, Chelsea/Madison Square Garden, but may be willing to expand our search to Empire State Building if that helps

Finally, we'd prefer 3* or higher

I'm not having much luck, so is our budget much too low? Or is there another tip to help us out?

Thanks!

Welcome to BetterBidding... we're glad you found us too! :)

Many NYC hotel rooms are only designated for double occupancy, so anytime you up your search to quad occupancy, it can often result in a price increase since 1) there are fewer rooms available which can accommodate quad occupancy, and 2) sometimes you're now looking at an upgraded room (ie- in NYC 'standard' rooms may accommodate double occupancy but you can book an upgraded room for quad occupancy). As well, this is one of the more expensive times of year in NYC.

However, i am seeing options near the high end of your range, a HOTWIRE 4adult search shows:

3.5* MTE for $208/nite

70 Park Ave Hotel for $231/nite (ESB zone)... gets good reviews and offers a wine reception each nite

Would either of these work for your needs?

Thanks for your speedy reply! :)

We're considering the hotwire property you mentioned. Any ideas on what hotel that might be?

I'm vacillating on whether or not to book that hotel or wait a few days and see if any better deals pop up on hotwire. Decisions, decisions! I'll update as soon as I decide what to do (and I'll be sure to use the links provided too!)

The 3.5* MTE property shows Restaurant, Fitness, Internet and Business icons. This matches multiple properties... the Hilton Manhattan East, Doubletree Metropolitan and the Roosevelt have all been seen with this amenity combination, so any of these would be likely for this one, although i'd tend to favor the Roosevelt.

If this is the Roosevelt it has a great location, but the 70 Park Ave is a nicer hotel.

Thanks in advance for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your purchases.

Let us know what you decide or if we can be of further help.

We ended up booking the 70 park ave for 231/night as mentioned above. After chatting with my family, we decided that would be the most bang for our buck. Thanks for all of the help! :)

A good choice, imo.

TWO suggestions near this property:

Jackson Hole Wymoning - (Third Ave at 35th St.) GREAT burgers makes for a filling lunch or a (very casual) and relatively inexpensive dinner

Rio Grande (Third Ave at 37th St) great frozen margaritas plus chips and salsa at the bar. Margaritas are small and expensive (~$10) but are also very strong.

Enjoy your stay.
