sook Posted March 24, 2011 Report Posted March 24, 2011 Hello,After I saw several posting on succeeding on bidding $100 for 1 night for a hotel in Paris, I tried $100 from May.21 to May 29 but I didn't win. Should the price be more expensive than $100 if it is May or should I wait a bit more and bid? I don't even receive a suggestion which asks to increase my bid by $10 or 20. Is it because my bid is way below? Any comment please? Thanks

sook Posted March 25, 2011 Author Report Posted March 25, 2011 I chose 4-star downtown area except Bastille and La Defence
thereuare Posted March 25, 2011 Report Posted March 25, 2011 The lack of a counter-offer (ie- if you raise your bid by $10 you can try again immediately) isn't indicative of anything... we've seen counter-offers when users have been quite far away from a winning bid as well as not seen them when just $1 more won a hotel. However, $100 doesn't go too far in the Springtime in Paris and based upon current rates a 4* is likely going to cost more than $100... what is your maximum bid and what is the best deal you're able to find at an acceptable hotel thru conventional booking channels? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.PS- to avoid any confusion, please list the zones you did bid, rather than the ones you didn't Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
sook Posted March 26, 2011 Author Report Posted March 26, 2011 I chose the area belowChamps Elysees - Opera Quarter WestEiffel Tower - Porte De Versailles - MontparnasseOpera Quarter East - Les HallesSt. Germain - Latin Quarter - MontparnasseI am trying everyday and each day the average price in the area keeps going down. The average price is 217. my max bid is $100. Do you think that given the average price is 217, is it too low to bid at $100?
thereuare Posted March 26, 2011 Report Posted March 26, 2011 If you're using the 'average price' shown by PRICELINE when you select a zone and star rating, that number is often inaccurate and not meaningful in determining a bidding strategy. Regardless, as i've noted above, i don't think that $100 is going to be enough for these dates based upon current prices....what is the best deal you're able to find at an acceptable hotel thru conventional booking channels????Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. sook Posted April 11, 2011 Author Report Posted April 11, 2011 Hello,I saw someone posted his/her win on this area at $100 for several night in Apr. Right after I saw the win, I also placed the bid and won for one night of May. 21 and I got a offer whether I want to extend my stay and then won another night. I was going to stay in Paris until May 29 so I called Priceline and asked whether I can extend more nights and they said I can only extend the same nights that I bid. As I only bid one night, I can only extend one more night. I am still happy I got two nights in May at $100.I won this bidding at the end of March. I have been trying all area in the zone 1 in Paris with the same price, but no luck. It looks now the prices in Paris is more than $100 for sure.Sook
