leo1234 Posted March 24, 2011 Report Posted March 24, 2011 Hi all,So I bid $76 per night for June 22, 2011 - June 29, 2011 (7 days), but i got rejected and I was presented with this offer. Does anyone know if it is a fair offer. I know that it is probably the Delta Chelsea, this is what I am aiming for since I chose 3.5* option in Downtown North area of Toronto. Anyone know if it is a fair offer, and does that mean if i bid $80 they will not accept it? Check below for the message i recieved. Thanks, Try Again Right NowWe searched hundreds of options to find your hotel room, however we can't accept your offer of $76 per room, per night. Your credit card has not been charged for Request Number ###-###-###-##. If you are willing to raise your price by $20 to $96 per room, per night, you can try the same request again right now. Normally you are required to change additional items (add zones, star level, or dates) in order to try your request again. However we are able to extend this one-time opportunity to you because of the zone, quality level and dates you requested.
leo1234 Posted March 24, 2011 Author Report Posted March 24, 2011 Also for my dates in June, I find the regular price from other websites to be at $170 a night. I guess it's a good price at $96...
TerryP Posted March 24, 2011 Report Posted March 24, 2011 You can accept the counter offer but I recommend, since you have plenty of time, you either use a free rebid zone or wait 24 hours and bid about halfway between your original bid and the counter offer. The true "best bid" is likely a little lower than the counter offer.
thereuare Posted March 24, 2011 Report Posted March 24, 2011 This is what we refer to as a counter-offer, and you can read more about them here: Priceline Suggests Price to PayWhen bidding 3.5* in this region you do have EIGHT re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Once you're comfortable with and/or confirmed your re-bid zones let us know and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. leo1234 Posted March 24, 2011 Author Report Posted March 24, 2011 Alright so I read those I see what you mean, thanks! However if I bid for a 3.5* for Toronto Downtown south, I know there isn't a hotel 3.5* in the South, does that mean they will most likely push me to the North most likely landing at Delta?
yellowdog Posted March 24, 2011 Report Posted March 24, 2011 leo1234However if I bid for a 3.5* for Toronto Downtown south, I know there isn't a hotel 3.5* in the South, does that mean they will most likely push me to the North most likely landing at Delta? Not necessarily, since South zone got 4* bidding can PRICELINE upgrade you to 4* in the South zone. You need to look after zones that don't any higher or equal rated hotels than you bid for. If you're going to use the zone as a "free zone". But if you're ok with an upgrade in this zone so use it. Otherwise don't use it.I hope this answer your question.Yellowdog.Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
leo1234 Posted March 25, 2011 Author Report Posted March 25, 2011 Yes this helped, thanks for clearing it up. Although in the past 2 days I have bid every way possible North and South Downtown Toront, 3.5* and 4*, all the way up to $85, for June 20-27. I have tried 19-26, 21-28, 22-29, up to my maximum days of 26- July 2. None have worked with 85 even stretching it to $89.00. I guess it's just cause its the summer? It did counter offer me again for $100 this time though, not $96.00. It seems kinda fair since Delta Chelsea has the room for $170/per night, for my dates listed above?
Romelle Posted March 25, 2011 Report Posted March 25, 2011 PRICELINE seems to regularly increase the counter-offer as one increases the bid. Lots of examples here. Often it scares the bidder into thinking prices are going up, and he/she accepts the counter. In fact, occasionally only a dollar or two more will win a bid, and most bids tend to be won about at the 1/2 way point between the first counter and the bid at which the counter was received. In your case, it looks like you will have to be a little over 1/2, but not necessarily all the way to the counter. You must be very close though. I looked at the individual days in HOTWIRE for a 3 1/2* East, and all the week days were $109, and the two weekend days were $98. Hotw.ire is typically a little more expensive than PRICELINE. And on Expedia, the rates per day were usually flat, or with minimal variation. Nothing suggesting splitting your bid would make any difference.Romelle

leo1234 Posted March 27, 2011 Author Report Posted March 27, 2011 What a bummer, just got this email from DELTA:Unfortunately as the reservation was made through Priceline, we will not be able to offer you the credits or benefits of the Delta Privilege program for your stay. This policy change came into effect starting January 1st of this year, and to protect the integrity of the Privilege program all bookings that are made through Priceline or Hotwire cannot be linked to a Privilege membership number.I apologize for this inconvenience. Should you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact myself directly.I don't get why they say that, when Delta makes exclusive deals with Priceline and Hotwire. Not fair...
leo1234 Posted March 28, 2011 Author Report Posted March 28, 2011 Anyone has had any experience with this?
AaronJB Posted March 28, 2011 Report Posted March 28, 2011 Anyone has had any experience with this?PRICELINE and HOTWIRE reservations are not eligible for rewards programs. Some users have lucked out with certain chains or specific properties, but because you are getting a discounted rate, you are not eligible for the rewards benefits. This chain may have allowed it in the past, but it looks like as of the first of the year it does not.
