Priceline Hotel: New York - July 7-10 2011

Hi, I'm looking to book a 3* or 4* hotel in central New York City for 3 nights in July this year.

I would like to do it through priceline and have seen a few people get 'The W' (MTE) for around $90 a night.

Is this realistic in July (is NYC busy in summer)?

And also - is it best to book early or late to get the best price.

Thanks in advance. :)

Welcome to Betterbidding. :)

Please provide the zones that would be acceptable, as well as the star rating and desired budget per night. July is not one of the busiest times of year in NYC, but it is not as slow as the Jan-Mar time frame. While prices are not going to be sky-high for these dates, unfortunately they will be moderately higher than $90.

Zones we would like are as follows: MTE, TS, ESB and maybe MTW & Chelsea.

Ideally we'd like to stay around the East Village but that doesn't really seem to be an option with Priceline.

Again in an ideal world we'd like to stay in a 4* but we are most influenced by budget so would definitely take a 3* if we could get a good price.

As for what our budget is, well we've stayed in some fantastic hotels in cities around the world for around $80 a night (including any taxes and fees).

Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a snowball's chance in hell of getting a room for that sort of money in NYC. :)

As I said earlier I have seen some people get 4*'s in MTE for $90 (plus taxes and fees) but if hotels are more expensive in July I'd say around $100 is our upper limit.

If it was a choice between a 3* for $90 and a 4* for $100 I'm pretty sure we'd go for the cheaper option as this is just the start of our American adventure - we have 2 more weeks traveling after NYC.

There are actually very few hotels in the Village area.

Note that at 3.5* and under 4* there are some hotels in the MTE zone which can be up to a 15 minute walk to the subway, would this be acceptable? Also, you mention 4* and 3* hotels, but no mention of 3.5*... would you want to try for a 3.5* or ultimately budget wins out and your goal is the least expensive 3* or better.

Lastly, the MSG zone often has some good value, and isn't too far from the other zones you're bidding, is there a reason you're excluding this zone?

Hi

Thanks for getting back to me again.

Walking isn't a problem for us - we're both relatively young and fit.

Yes sorry - 3.5* would certainly be acceptable, but our goal is the least expensive 3* or better.

We would consider MSG along with MTW and Chelsea, although the Central and East areas would be our preference.

Thanks again for all your help and advice.

I'll certainly use the links when we do start the bidding process. :)

So do you want to bid the Central and MTE zones up to your limit first before trying for the other zones, or is ultimately price the most important factor, and the least expensive 3* or better in any of the these zones is your goal?

Also, there is no 'central' zone on PRICELINE (there is Central Park South but you didn't mention this one previously above, so i don't think this is the zone you're referring to here). Please list the acceptable zones, by PRICELINE name, along with the info above, and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow.

Sorry, by central and east I meant the TS, ESB and MTE zones.

To clarify though - budget rules so we'd like the best 3* and upwards in TS, ESB, MTE plus MTW, MSG and Chelsea that we can get for our dollar! :)

You were only able to make the $80 bids? (both of them??)

Was your first bid for ONLY TS, ESB and MTE??

Was your second bid for ONLY MTW, MSG and Chelsea??

What were the zones you included on the next bid (which got rejected as a duplicate)??

Thanks for using the PRICELINE links on the board.

Hi

I must have done something wrong the first time around because I tried again this morning and it worked fine.

No luck though unfortunately.

We did get a "one time offer" if we increased our bid to $110 but we didn't want to go that high, at least not right now.

Do you think we have a better chance of getting a lower price if we leave it closer to the date of our trip?
