HaveInternetWillTravel Posted March 22, 2011 Report Posted March 22, 2011 I'm having trouble securing a winning bit for a Houston Galleria Hotel, April 17th to 21st.I've done 2 bids, the first for a 4* starting at $50 and going up by $5 using free rebids and the second for a 3.5* also starting $50 and going up by $5. I stopped bidding on each one when I got to $70 because I felt that this seemed quite high after reading some of the winning bids for similar area hotels. I didn't think I would have much trouble since we are looking for a room mid week (Sun-Thurs), but maybe 4 nights in a row is making it harder?Does anyone have any insights why I might be having trouble? Or am I just being cheap?Past winning bids from this board:4* Houston (Galleria) Omni Houston, $65 ... 4/7/11-4/10/114* Houston (Galleria) Hotel Derek, $55 ... 8/12/11-8/13/114* Houston (Galleria) Houston Hilton Post Oak, $60 ... 2/18/11-2/21/11 (2 rooms)4* Houston (Galleria) Hotel Derek, $60 ... 2/11/11-2/15/11Also being that I'm not familiar with Houston at all, would the Downtown area be an OK place to stay as well? Cause I could try and include that in a search too. We're a 30yr old couple in Houston on a layover from Central America on our way to Europe. Due to connecting flights and flight change from the airline we have a bit longer than anticipated. Basically we just want to do a bit of shopping (ditch the beach wear for some warmer clothes) and mainly just eat some good food (definite some BBQ) and have some drinks. Thanks for any help.
thereuare Posted March 22, 2011 Report Posted March 22, 2011 Rates are date specific, and rates for your dates are higher then when when we've seen the $60 rates accepted.I don't know the area that well as far as which would be best for spending the day relaxing and shopping, but i also don't think you're too far off from a win in the Galleria zone either (HOTWIRE has a 4* offering in the Galleria zone for $86/nite)... nor do i think you'll necessarily save much by looking towards the Downtown zone. What is your maximum bid for this stay?
