Thanks. We're going to look at Key West and Key Largo before making a final decision. (I know nothing about the area, unfortunately.) I will follow up when final decisions have been made and hotels are booked...

we ended up booking at the Marriott Key Largo through Kayak at $159 (Thu.) and $179 (Fri.) It's only a 25 minute drive from Islamorada and all we plan on doing there is fish anyway so we're very happy with the outcome...
