BIENSAPEAU Posted March 19, 2011 Report Posted March 19, 2011 New to BB, new to Priceline.I've been trying to find a 4* for three nights, May 18-21. Willing to stay in Central Park South or Midtown West. Have linked to Priceline (using BB link, of course) on each of the last five days. I bid up to $199 and still haven't been able to find a room. Other people on BB seem to be paying much less for similar dates. What am I doing wrong?I'm not wedded to Priceline. If something came up on Hotwire, I'd go that route, but haven't had much success there, either.Would be grateful for suggestions or tips.- Thank you in advance

You're not doing anything wrong! :) Unfortunately, rates do look moderately elevated for these dates, which are in the prime Spring season. MTW is also often a bit more expensive, and CPS can vary. A good deal of the wins are also in MTE, which tends to be a little cheaper than other Midtown areas (and MTE/ESB do look cheaper at the 4* level on HOTWIRE for these dates, too.)What would be your desired budget per night?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
BIENSAPEAU Posted March 20, 2011 Author Report Posted March 20, 2011 We would go up to $225. Could you comment on the quality of the 4* establishments in MTE versus MTW or CPS? We would consider MTE if the hotels are comparable but available at a lower rate than the other two areas.
thereuare Posted March 20, 2011 Report Posted March 20, 2011 At the 4* level I'd have no issue with bidding the MTE, MTW, CPS, TS and/or ESB zones... they all typically work out just fine for the average user and have easy access to mass transit.I'll also add that HOTWIRE has a 4* hotel in the ESB zone for $223/nite with just an internet icon showing, but it does have a quite favorable 4.5/5.0 Tripadvisor review rating and a 95% recommendation rating from previous HOTWIRE guests.Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly.
