WorldTraveler1 Posted March 17, 2011 Report Posted March 17, 2011 Bids Rejected for Resorts & 4*$102$120$140$1454/21/2011 - 4/25/2011Oddly other bidders have been able to get it for a low as $85 around this time.
AaronJB Posted March 17, 2011 Report Posted March 17, 2011 Not sure what's going on in the area, but rates on HOTWIRE look quite high, and most of what HOTWIRE is offering are regular rate (grey) Hotels.com listings - the only discounted inventory is a 3* for $181. What would be your desired budget per night?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
WorldTraveler1 Posted March 17, 2011 Author Report Posted March 17, 2011 Aaron,My budget is $180 for 4* or higher. Honestly I had thought around $150 would eventually get me a room, but I was incorrect. Also, I bid again $155 & $165 4* and Resorts and was rejected.
djs Posted March 18, 2011 Report Posted March 18, 2011 Easter is 4/24 this year. Could that be playing a role?
thereuare Posted March 18, 2011 Report Posted March 18, 2011 Easter is 4/24 this year. Many schools have off this week and provides an opportunity for family vacations, increasing demand (and prices)... that would be my guess for the higher than expected prices. With no re-bid zones available not much you can do other then continue to increase towards your maximum budget. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
bschrager Posted March 18, 2011 Report Posted March 18, 2011 Not sure if this will help. I only selected resorts for 4/28-5/3 and then bid $85. I did not even try 4*. Those dates though are the tail end of spring break for most schools.
WorldTraveler1 Posted March 18, 2011 Author Report Posted March 18, 2011 I appreciate the advice. I had been trying just resorts and when that would fail I rebid with 4*I will try again later today between $165-180.
yellowdog Posted March 18, 2011 Report Posted March 18, 2011 WorldTraveler1Good luck with your next round! Please use the site's PRICELINE link, and let us know how it goes or if you need any additional help with your stay.Yellowdog.
WorldTraveler1 Posted March 18, 2011 Author Report Posted March 18, 2011 Hi,I used your PRICELINE link. Rejected again at 175 for Resorts and a Rebid at 4* at 176. I can rebid on my wifes account/card right now. Does anyone have a price level suggestion/bidding strategy?ThanksAlso....this is getting expensive.
Romelle Posted March 18, 2011 Report Posted March 18, 2011 Hi,I used your PRICELINE link. Rejected again at 175 for Resorts and a Rebid at 4* at 176. I can rebid on my wifes account/card right now. Does anyone have a price level suggestion/bidding strategy?ThanksAlso....this is getting expensive. At the 3* level, in the list of hotels is a Holiday Inn and something called "Diva Village". You'd best research them first, but maybe the 3*s could work? Holiday Inns get the job done. And sometimes the lower star levels include breakfast, while the higher ones rarely do. No Holiday Inn shows on the 3* retail side. You also could bid at the 3 1/2* level.Romelle
AaronJB Posted March 18, 2011 Report Posted March 18, 2011 The issue appears to primarily be the first couple of days - HOTWIRE options do improve if you look up the last two days separately; if you don't mind moving, you may be able to get a good deal for the last couple of days on a nice property and then figure out an alternative for the first couple of days.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
WorldTraveler1 Posted March 18, 2011 Author Report Posted March 18, 2011 Aaron,Good Idea. I can get a 4* @ 190 for the any portion of the last three days. AaronJB Posted March 18, 2011 Report Posted March 18, 2011 My guess would be the Renaissance.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
WorldTraveler1 Posted March 19, 2011 Author Report Posted March 19, 2011 Aaron,I used the site PRICELINE link. Rejected for Resorts @ $181 and 4* @ $182.I liked your idea....I can get a 4* on Hotwire at $190 for the last three days and could use Priceline for the first night.Let see tomorrow. Thanks again.
WorldTraveler1 Posted March 19, 2011 Author Report Posted March 19, 2011 FYI,Aruba, Resorts & 4* Rejected at $190 & 191.
WorldTraveler1 Posted March 20, 2011 Author Report Posted March 20, 2011 $195 & $200 Rejected for 4* & Resorts....looks like I may have to do the Hotwire Option...Price went up slightly to $193 for Hotwire.
bschrager Posted March 21, 2011 Report Posted March 21, 2011 Looks like that Hotwire option may be gone as of this morning. Using the HOTWIRE link from here it did not come up with any 4* offerings except for stuff through Hotels.com That's a very busy week with a lot of kids first going back to school on Tuesday the 26th.
WorldTraveler1 Posted March 22, 2011 Author Report Posted March 22, 2011 Good point. I saw that the Hotwire rate was back to $190.00 so I went ahead and booked it using the HOTWIRE link. I agree that inventory levels are obviously getting low and pulled the trigger.Aaron you were correct, it was the Renaissance. Your suggestion to book 3 nights was very helpful. Also, thanks to BSchrager all for your input and help as well.I'm going to see if I have any luck on priceline for the 1st night...
WorldTraveler1 Posted March 22, 2011 Author Report Posted March 22, 2011 Got this on using the HOTWIRE link as well as advice from Aaron.Amenities are:ResortNear BeachCasinoSmoke Free RoomsFitness CenterPool(s)Restaurant(s)Business CenterLaundry FacilitiesHigh-Speed Internet AccessGolf NearbyTennis NearbySpa ServicesChildren's Activity Program
