RubiP Posted March 14, 2011 Report Posted March 14, 2011 This is my first time using Priceline and I would really appreciate a bit of advice. I am going to New York on 5th May until 11th May and would like a room near Time Square (4 star plus). I need a room which will accommodate 2 adults and a baby (she's 1 years old). Is this possible on Priceline? Thank you for your help.
thereuare Posted March 15, 2011 Report Posted March 15, 2011 Welcome to BetterBidding! All that PRICELINE guarantees is double occupancy, and there are quite a few hotels in NYC which only have one bed and/or can't accommodate a crib or Pak-n-Play. It comes down to how willing/flexible you are to adapt should you receive a room which can't accommodate a crib or Pak-n-Play... while not ideal would you be willing to make a make-shift sleeping area with extra sheets using the floor, chair, seat cushions, etc... or could you sleep 2adults/1infant in one bed?If the above is not acceptable you could use HOTWIRE which would allow you to search for 2adults/1child.Let us know your thoughts and how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.PS- i'd also suggest looking beyond just the Times Square zone, as discussed in this Hotels Near Times Square thread. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
RubiP Posted March 15, 2011 Author Report Posted March 15, 2011 I think we can adapt. Hotwire is more expensive right? If we get a room with just 1 bed, the hotel won't say that we can't have a child in it will they? If not, happy to chance it. Also looking at areas outside Time Square is fine. Having not been there, I'm not really sure where to stay anyway.Thank you for your help.
thereuare Posted March 15, 2011 Report Posted March 15, 2011 If we get a room with just 1 bed, the hotel won't say that we can't have a child in it will they?Anything is possible, as some hotels are only designated for double occupancy, but usually with an infant it's a non-issue (vs. if your 'child' is a teenager).Other recommended zones will be based upon your desired star rating and budget... what is your budget (per nite before fees and taxes) for this stay? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. RubiP Posted March 15, 2011 Author Report Posted March 15, 2011 My budget is $200 max excluding taxes and I am looking for a 4 star hotel. Happy to roll the dice, I just hope they won't prevent us staying as our baby is with us (she's only 1 years old!).
AaronJB Posted March 15, 2011 Report Posted March 15, 2011 MTE is a particularly nice area and less hectic than TS (and yet, not that far from TS if you wanted to head over that way.)HOTWIRE has a 4* MTE for $202 for these dates (as well as a 4* to the South in the Empire State Building zone for $196.) My guess is that you may be able to get a 4* in MTE via PRICELINE for $150-180 (although given that this is the busy Spring season, my guess is that unfortunately you may need to go to the upper half of that - $165-180; but I'd still start lower (maybe $120-125) and work higher by $5's using re-bidding.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
RubiP Posted March 15, 2011 Author Report Posted March 15, 2011 Hi,I've looked on Hotwire and added 1 child (even though she's not 2 yet!), and the prices are slightly higher - not much though. I'm getting MTE for $214. Do you know which hotel this might be?Thanks
AaronJB Posted March 15, 2011 Report Posted March 15, 2011 When searching for 2 adults/1 children, I'm seeing a 4* MTE w/fitness, business, restaurant, internet for $214. This amenity set could be the Omni Berkshire or W New York. If you click 'see details' to go to the detail page, then scroll down towards the bottom of the page you should see a 4/5 tripadvisor rating (the tripadvisor logo w/4 out of 5 circles shaded, NOT the HOTWIRE customer rating). The tripadvisor rating is not updated in real-time so it's no guarantee, but 4/5 currently matches the Omni and not the W, so I'd lean towards the Omni. Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
RubiP Posted March 15, 2011 Author Report Posted March 15, 2011 Thank you. The Omni looks lovely! What does the 90% recommended mean? I assumed this is the Hotwire people rating it, but the only 4 star in MTE which has been given this rating is The Kimberly. Am I getting confused? Thanks
AaronJB Posted March 15, 2011 Report Posted March 15, 2011 Thank you. The Omni looks lovely! What does the 90% recommended mean? I assumed this is the Hotwire people rating it, but the only 4 star in MTE which has been given this rating is The Kimberly. Am I getting confused? ThanksThe 90% is the HOTWIRE customer rating. There is no listing to check HOTWIRE % ratings against, so it doesn't really assist in narrowing down possible listings. When searching for 2/1 for 5/5-11, I'm seeing a 4* in MTE for $214 w/Restaurant, Fitness, Hi-Speed Internet, Business. That amenity set has been seen with the W New York and Omni. While the 4/5 tripadvisor rating would make me lean towards the Omni, the W is still a possibility.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
RubiP Posted March 15, 2011 Author Report Posted March 15, 2011 On one of the other posts I saw you could do a dummy search for flights and hotels and try and identify it that way. It's through that, I indentified the 90% rating. Each of the hotels which came up hat a hotwire rating.I'm guessing you're right and I love the Omni so will look at booking this. Do you think the price may go down nearer the time?
AaronJB Posted March 16, 2011 Report Posted March 16, 2011 When you search for hotel + flight, that is powered by Expedia; when you click "more lodging info" next to a hotel listing, you are sent to Expedia information about that hotel. I am seeing a 90% approval for the Kimberly on Expedia, but the Expedia and HOTWIRE customer reviews are not associated with each other. There is a 4/5 tripadvisor rating on the detail page of the HOTWIRE listing though, and that is a match for the Omni, but not the W. However, the tripadvisor ratings are not updated in "real time", so the W remains a possibility if it was 4/5 at some point recently. There is no way to know for sure if rates will fall; if traffic comes in below expectations (although Spring is popular/expensive), rates may come down, but if traffic comes in above expectations rates could stay similar or head higher.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
