Hi all,

I've just come across this site, which was recommended in a thread on moneysavingexpert

I'm completely new to bidding for hotels/flights/etc and thus would really appreciate some help, as I don't really have a clue where to start.

I'm looking to book a 4/5* hotel in Paris for my girlfriend as a surprise for her birthday. The dates I'd like are Friday 19th August to Sunday 21st August. My ideal location would be very central.

Is it also usual to bid for flights, or does that not really happen?

Thanks very much for any help in advance!

Welcome to BetterBidding!

Are you willing to pay more for a 5* hotel vs. a 4* OR is your goal the least expensive 4* or better for this stay? What is your expected budget (per nite before fees and taxes) for this stay? If you enter 'Paris' in the search box on the top right of this page you should see a map of the Paris region... which zones, by PRICELINE name, are you willing to accept?

Are you bidding from outside of the US? If so, PRICELINE currently only offers bidding on flights origination from the US, so that may not be an option if you're traveling to Paris from a location outside of the States.

Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.

Let us know the information above and we'll take it from there.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

I would be flying from Germany, Frankfurt, which is where I live at the moment and paying in Euro/British Pounds.

Yes, I would pay a bit more for a 5* hotel than for a 4* hotel, just to make the trip truly memorable. Whether this is realistic with my budget or not is another question! I may be completely off course here in terms of what is available for what price, but I wouldn't want to exceed a cost per night of 70 Euro, which is approximately $100 per night.

I have never been to Paris before and thus don't know any of the areas etc. As I said, a nice place in the centre would be the certain preference. Do you know of anybody who has posted his experience about a particular area of Paris and whether it was good to stay in?

Thanks,

Andrew

If you look at the very first post in this Priceline - Other Countries area you will find a list of hotels reported by members as Priceline wins. Quite a few of them have REVIEW links. If you click those links, you will get to the hotel reviews. Often members also comment on the area around the hotel in these reviews. Plus it will give you a better understanding of the kinds of hotels you might get in a particular area.

Additionally, I'd really recommend you finding some Paris guide books in a local library or bookstore. When I am fortunate enough to take trips, it seems the better prepared I am the better time I have. There are lots of really good guide books. I like the Lonely Planet series, but there are many others. Different guide books seem to work better for different people, depending upon their interests and just who they are. It is worth at least browsing several until you find some that just seem to work well for you.
