nb419 Posted March 12, 2011 Report Posted March 12, 2011 :) RE: Jacksonville (Jax Beach-Ponte Verde Area)Can anyone explain why the Hotwire hotel listed as Holiday Inn Sunspree doesn't seem to exist on the Holiday Inn website and also shares an address with the Courtyard Oceanfront at that location;1617 N. First Street
thereuare Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 Welcome to BetterBidding! The Holiday Inn Sunspree was reported as a Hotwire win back in 2006 and has since been re-branded as a Courtyard property... thanks for letting us know and we've updated the Hotwire Hotel List accordingly. What are the date(s) of your stay and the amenities associated with the hotel you're being offered? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. nb419 Posted March 13, 2011 Author Report Posted March 13, 2011 Thanks for helping with this one. When looking for 2 Rooms/4 Adults 04-28 thru 05-03 I see a $71 3* in the Jax Beach/Ponte Vedre area with Complimentary Breakfast, Pool, High Speed Internet and Golf Nearby listed. 100% recommended rating out of 200+ reviews and a 4.5 TripAdvisor rating. It all sound great unless its way down in Ponte Vedre by Fort Matanzas instead of at Neptune Beach where I have kinfolk. When I first looked earlier in the day that same 100% recommended 3* was $1 less, so, give or take, that's the one I'm trying to narrow down. Now I'm working the TripAdvisor angle. Do you find their Star Rating for specific hotels matches Hotwire/Priceline?
thereuare Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 Each service uses their own criteria to rate hotels so the star rating assigned by HOTWIRE will not necessarily match the TA star rating.Best guess for the property above is the Hampton Inn upgraded to the 3* level since the last time it was reported to the board at the 2.5* level.Since this an extended stay you could see if this same property is offered for the first (or last) nite of your stay and then again for the balance. If so, you could purchase the solo nite in order to 'look behind the curtain'. If you're happy with the results purchase the remaining nites, if not, make alternate plans for the balance of your stay. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how it goes or if we can be of further help. nb419 Posted March 13, 2011 Author Report Posted March 13, 2011 I did try breaking it up but couldn't find that same hotel on other dates. Its strange because the Courtyard had a similar response. I went ahead and got a reservation there as a fall back in case I can't get this deal. Funny thing, I could book for the whole stay (and did) but just the weekend was "sold out". Over a grand total for just one of the two rooms I need is really not going to fly. But I have to have something in place. I'm trying one more time this evening, after the Big 10 Final. Thanks for your time and effort. I may work something out yet.
thereuare Posted March 14, 2011 Report Posted March 14, 2011 Funny thing, I could book for the whole stay (and did) but just the weekend was "sold out".During busy times hotels can institute minimum stay requirements... if they only have a handful of rooms available for a given weekend, they may show sold-out if you only want the weekend nites, but if you need those weekend nites as part of (say) a 10 nite stay, they'll let you have one of the few remaining rooms since they don't want to lose the business for the additional 8 nites. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Keep us updated and let us know whatever you decide or if we can be of further help.
