elbo Posted March 11, 2011 Report Posted March 11, 2011 $120 3/12/11-3/14/11At first I bid $110 for 4* in Santa Monica-Marina Del Rey and came up with no deal. Then I lowered my minimum rating to 3.5* and raised my bid to $120.With that bid I got the Doubletree Guest Suites Santa Monica for this trip.FYI I was bidding the day before the trip (bidding on 3/11 for 3/12 check in)I guess I'm happy with the result. I wanted to be in Santa Monica near the beach. TripAdvisor is showing $211 - $347 Avg. price/night, so I feel like I could have done better. Maybe if I'd lowered the stars rating but hadn't raised my bid at the same time?
thereuare Posted March 11, 2011 Report Posted March 11, 2011 Welcome to BetterBidding!Congratulations on your success!Yes, you have the right idea in the sense that you should lower your bid price if you lower your star rating, but with same day check-in it can be tough to be aggressive in your bidding since you don't have time to bid again if you're rejected and/or run out of re-bid zones. See this thread for a further discussion on this subject: If You Lower Your Star Rating Then Lower Your Bid Price.Thank you for sharing your win with the board. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Enjoy your stay.
