monyetz Posted March 11, 2011 Report Posted March 11, 2011 Hi there,Looking for some inputs on how to start my bid for 4/23-4/25 stay in New York.Zones I'd like to stay are in Times Square, Downtown Soho or Chelsea.desired star rating is 3* - 4*.Is it busy times in NY over the spring?
thereuare Posted March 11, 2011 Report Posted March 11, 2011 Spring is an expensive time of year in NYC.Are you willing to pay more for a 4* vs. a 3.5* vs a 3* OR is your goal the least expensive 3* or better for this stay? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. monyetz Posted March 11, 2011 Author Report Posted March 11, 2011 My goal is to get least expensive 3* or better for this stay.Do all zones in NY have similar price range or there'll be a great price difference if I choose between TS or Chelsea for same star rating?
thereuare Posted March 12, 2011 Report Posted March 12, 2011 Yes, Spring is typically both busy and expensive time of year in NYC... although rates for these particular dates don't seem that bad.Your zone selection is not typical for the average NYC visitor, are you familiar with the city and sure these are the best zone choices for your needs? If not, do you have specific plans for this trip which make these zones the best choice for you OR are you mostly doing 'general' touristy things in the city? What is your expected budget for this stay? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. monyetz Posted March 13, 2011 Author Report Posted March 13, 2011 This is actually our first time coming to NY and not familiar at all with the city.Basically, on this trip, we'd love to be able to visit as many places as possible. One of the things we want to do as well is to watch a broadway play, visit the financial district, MOMA, and guggenheim.Do you have suggestions on where's best for first timer to stay?My budget is about $160 before taxes.
monyetz Posted March 13, 2011 Author Report Posted March 13, 2011 Tried bidding today (through your link) and started with $140 at Times Square 4*.Wasn't successful and increased bid to $150 and added Central Park South, Upper East Side and Upper West Side + 3.5*Third time, increased bid to $160 and added Hell's Kitchen.Fourth attempt, increased bid to $165 and added Midtown West.Still haven't managed to successfully bid. Any recommendations or should I go higher?
AaronJB Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 Any interest in MTE? Additionally, HOTWIRE has a 3.5* in MTC for $166. Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
thereuare Posted March 14, 2011 Report Posted March 14, 2011 My goal is to get least expensive 3* or better for this stay.... started with $140 at Times Square 4*.You say your goal is the least expensive 3* or better but you started with trying for a 4* hotel, which is somewhat contradictory.Based upon current prices i don't think you're going to save that much by going for a 3* first and i would suggest trying for a 4* first, then trying for a 3.5*, but which zones i would recommend are star rating dependent, so would need to know your thoughts on this aspect first in order to recommend zones and a suggested strategy to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. monyetz Posted March 14, 2011 Author Report Posted March 14, 2011 That's actually what I had in mind to start with a 4* and go my way down and I'd go as low as 3*.It'll be best if I can get a deal at a 4* and I'll definitely go with that.So I'll got with a 4*.
thereuare Posted March 14, 2011 Report Posted March 14, 2011 At the 4* level the MTE, MTW, CPS, ESB and TS zones typically all work well for the average user. If you're willing to include all these zones in your bidding i'm guessing it will likely take ~$155-$175 to be successful for a 4* property, but of course we'll start lower.Let us know if all of these zones are acceptable and your maximum bid and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
