David Kurtz Posted March 8, 2011 Report Posted March 8, 2011 I initially was trying to win an uber cheap 4* hotel (DoubleTree Paradise Valley Hotel) based on previously posted bids. I started at $40 and was rejected. I increased to $45 and was rejected. I increased to $50 and was rejected. I started to reconsider if I really wanted to spend much more for a 4* or drop down to a 3.5*. All the posts about possibly winning Xona Resort and paying a $15 per night resort fee scared me enough to go back up to the 4* range and keep trying. At $75 I got the "pay $20 more message" so I went back and tried $80 and won. My initial bid was for 4 nights with the thought that I wasn't sure if I would be happy at the hotel I won. After seeing it was Firesky Resort & Spa I went ahead and used Priceline's add a night feature and added 3 more nights to the end of the stay to total 7 nights. Here is the breakdown of my final costs.1st Offer:Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $80.00 Subtotal: $320.00 Taxes and Fees: $56.92 Total Charges for Original Reservation*: $376.92 Additional Nights:Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $80.00 Subtotal: $240.00 Taxes and Fees: $44.37 Total Charges for Add. Nights Res.*: $284.37 I think I ended up paying a little more for Taxes and Fees by adding nights, but it was worth a few bucks to ensure I didn't have a bad hotel all week long. I wanted a very cheap hotel, but after reviewing the Firesky website and seeing normal price, I am thrilled at $80 a night for this hotel. I could have gotten a 2* for very cheap, but I did want to stay somewhere nice. We are excited to go and see it. We'll post a review and pictures when we return.I also rented a car for 7 days which I will post in another area. Check it out.I am new to betterbidding so I unfortunately did not use the links but I will be sure to next time.
