Priceline Hotel: 4* San Francisco (USW-Nob Hill) Parc 55 Wyndham

Hi,

I have used your web site last year to win a priceline bid for Seattle. However, I am still quite new to PRICELINE.

I am planning to visit San Francisco from April 20 to April 27. After doing a bit of research, I would like to stay in either Union Square East or West zones. I read somewhere that if I have to choose, then USW may be better as there are more 4* hotels available. With more hotels, then my lower bids would be more likely to be accepted.

However, I am not very picky about locations, as long as it is either USE or USW. I note that both zones have hotels from 1* to 4*.

Therefore, my question is, is it a good idea to start bidding by combining USE an USW? Or should I somehow just start with USW? I am not sure if I may be missing something by start bidding with both zones.

Regarding hotels wouldn't it be diffrent. This is more a question about bidding technique. You'll get more free zones if you bid for the zones separate.

Thanks for your reply.

After reading your link on rebidding techniques, I did the following:

The first time, I bid for a stay from April 20 - 27. I preferred Union Square East over Union Square West, and I wanted a 4* hotel. Yes, I used the PRICELINE link on this site to place my bids.

Union Square East: $80 - rejected

Union Square East + West: $80 - rejected

Union Square East + 1 rebid zone: $85 - rejected

Union Square East + West + 1 rebid zone: $85 - rejected

Union Square East + 2 rebid zones: $90 - rejected

Union Square East + West + 2 rebid zones: $90 - rejected

...

I kept adding rebid zones until I have reached $110 and this bid was still rejected.

Then, I considered splitting my bids, after reading forum topics on bid splitting. I split into two periods: April 20 to 24 and April 24 to 27.

With April 20 to 24,

Union Square East: $80 - rejected

Union Square East + West: $80 - rejected

Union Square East + 1 rebid zone: $85 - rejected

Union Square East + West + 1 rebid zone: $85 - rejected

Union Square East + 2 rebid zones: $90 - rejected

Union Square East + West + 2 rebid zones: $90 - ACCEPTED << Parc 55 (Union Square West)

Then, I tried the second stay period: April 24 to April 27

Union Square East: $80 - rejected

Union Square East + West: $80 - rejected

Union Square East + 1 rebid zone: $85 - rejected

Union Square East + West + 1 rebid zone: $85 - rejected

Union Square East + 2 rebid zones: $90 - rejected

Union Square East + West + 2 rebid zones: $90 - rejected

...

I kept going until $110, and the bid was still rejected.

After looking at Hotwire rates for reference, I think that the last night, April 26, is the highest rate for a lot of hotels. Therefore, I am not successful with the second stay period.

What do you suggest?

Should I keep trying? Should I break this period into two more periods? Should I just book at Hotwire?

Any advice you could provide is much appreciated.

I will keep using your PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to place my bids and research.

Congratulations on your success!

Nicely done (although ideally better to research the individual dates first to determine where the best split is rather than assume it would be in the middle). Given your additional research of seeing the last nite being more expensive then the others, my first play would be to try to use PRICELINE's Add a Nite feature to see if you can add 2 of the 3 remaining nites of your stay at the same price. If successful, you could then try to bid PRICELINE or use HOTWIRE for the last nite of your stay and only need to change hotels once (for the last nite). If not successful, we can then further discuss your budget and/or how you feel about changing hotels.

HOWEVER, since this thread now reflects your win of the Parc 55, please start a NEW TOPIC for your remaining nites and we'll continue the discussion there.
