AndrewOAz Posted March 6, 2011 Report Posted March 6, 2011 I am traveling with family for an event in Las Vegas the weekend of Mary 18th-20th. We already are staying at the new Ravella at Lake Las Vegas the first night, but then coming in to the strip for Sat. night (yes, I know it will be more expensive, but is how we had to do this). The wife/family would like to stay at the Golden Nugget and enjoy their unique pool slide through the shark tank and the downtown light shows. Since this is the only 4* in downtown, I am sure there is a strategy to get that. What might be a reasonable price expectation too? Finally, we are also open to a nice 5* on the strip for a reasonable price, but not the $170-200 I am seeing. Thanks for the great site and I look forward to bidding through you once I figure out the best strategy. :)
AaronJB Posted March 7, 2011 Report Posted March 7, 2011 Good evening. :)Please provide a follow-up for your prior Priceline San Francisco thread (post what you decided for that stay within that thread, then reply to this thread and we'll be happy to look into the above.)Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
AndrewOAz Posted March 8, 2011 Author Report Posted March 8, 2011 Good evening. :)Please provide a follow-up for your prior Priceline San Francisco thread (post what you decided for that stay within that thread, then reply to this thread and we'll be happy to look into the above.)Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches. We never found anything we could afford, so stayed in a condo offered through a friend. Can you close that string?
AndrewOAz Posted March 8, 2011 Author Report Posted March 8, 2011 Your help would be appreciated as I want to start bidding, but clearly need your help. Thanks.
yellowdog Posted March 8, 2011 Report Posted March 8, 2011 AndrewOAzI am traveling with familyBe aware that PRICELINE only guarantees double occupancy. After that it's at the discretion of the hotel. It's possible that you receive a room with only one bed and the hotel is unable, or unwilling, to switch you to a room with two beds (or can charge an additional fee to do so). Are you bidding for one or two roomsSince this is the only 4* in downtown, I am sure there is a strategy to get that.Golden Nugget is the only 4* in DT reported to the board for the moment. But, hotels are added/removed by PRICELINE all the time, and star ratings can change at ANY time. As well, the geographic boundaries of an area are subject to changeWhat might be a reasonable price expectation too? Please post your max budget/night before tax/feewe are also open to a nice 5* on the strip for a reasonable price, but not the $170-200 I am seeing. Please post your max budget/night before tax/fee. Also let us know if you're willing to stay in both South and North zone.Let us know how we can help you further. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Yellowdog.
AndrewOAz Posted March 8, 2011 Author Report Posted March 8, 2011 Yes, we are willing to stay in both North or South in the 5* range and would likely want to keep it closer to $100-130 if that is even possible. As for the Golden Nugget, it is clearly available for $159 regular and $140 on HOTWIRE, so the goal would be $70-100. I was looking and noticed 4 or 5 zones in Vegas without a 4* hotel if I understand the strategy right. Thanks for helping.
AndrewOAz Posted March 8, 2011 Author Report Posted March 8, 2011 I am really anxious to get some bids going as soon as I can get some advice. Thanks.
thereuare Posted March 9, 2011 Report Posted March 9, 2011 What do you want to try for first... a 5* on the Strip (which i think is doubtful for this Saturday nite) OR a 4* hotel Downtown? Are you willing to accept the risk that PRICELINE only guarantees double occupancy and you'll be more? (i'm assuming quad occupancy??) You could receive a room with only one bed and the hotel could be unable, or unwilling, to switch you to a room with two beds... or could charge an additional fee for a room with more than one bed. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... and your searches too! AndrewOAz Posted March 9, 2011 Author Report Posted March 9, 2011 First preference is 4* downtown hoping that is Golden Nugget. Next preference is 5* reasonably priced anywhere on the strip. Yes, I am okay with one bed, but thanks for asking. The kids have the option of staying with friends in Lake Las Vegas a 2nd night.

AndrewOAz Posted March 9, 2011 Author Report Posted March 9, 2011 I had already clicked that, but I just did it again and yes, it has your referral ID showing in the browser after I do. Your strategy assistance would be appreciated. Thanks.
thereuare Posted March 9, 2011 Report Posted March 9, 2011 At the 4* level you have FOUR re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* Fremont St...Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100Any questions feel free to ask. If rejected we'll continue on with a 5* strategy if that would be the route you want to try next. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. AndrewOAz Posted March 10, 2011 Author Report Posted March 10, 2011 Wife decided since we'd waiting this long, what was another day, so she wanted me to be more agressive this first day. It didn't work. I started at $52 for desired downtown location 4* and increased in each of the four no-bid zones to $56, 60, 64, and 68 respectively. So, I'll try again tomorrow night with a little higher amount and update this post.
yellowdog Posted March 10, 2011 Report Posted March 10, 2011 AndrewOAzThanx for the update.Good luck with your next round! Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Yellowdog.
AndrewOAz Posted March 12, 2011 Author Report Posted March 12, 2011 So far, coming up empty on the 4* so I would be happy to hear your strategy on the 5* now for either north or south strip. Thanks.
Romelle Posted March 12, 2011 Report Posted March 12, 2011 Have you checked the rates on the hotel web sites yet? Sometimes they have specials that are actually better than one can do by Priceline bidding. There are some links in the Las Vegas Checker above, and more under the Support/Travel Links tab. For the record, I learned this the hard way.Romelle

thereuare Posted March 16, 2011 Report Posted March 16, 2011 At prices i'm currently seeing I'm doubtful that $125 will be enough for a 5*, but if you want to give it a try...At the 5* level you have ELEVEN re-bid zones. AndrewOAz Posted March 17, 2011 Author Report Posted March 17, 2011 Unfortunately, this ended with a little sour taste..........we got a hotel room but was for MORE that the hotel was showing on their website. In the end, we tried 5* up to $130 and didn't get anything in spite of about 20 bids over the last few days. Then went back to the 4* and did 100, nothing, 105, nothing, and 110 nothing. Then, decided since we were down to being one day away from last chance and wife wanted this decided before we left (remember, we have our first night at Ravella already) we went $120 on the 4* and got the Golden Nugget. Unfortunately, their posted rate at the time was $109................ so why didn't they accept our earlier offers?Yes, I called Priceline and they are refunding the difference, but still leaves a sour taste. However, BetterBidding is awesome. Thanks for the help.
AaronJB Posted March 17, 2011 Report Posted March 17, 2011 Sorry to hear that the rate turned out to be more than what the hotel offered, but glad to hear that PRICELINE matched the offer - did you get $25?Thank you for sharing your win and using the site's PRICELINE link.Enjoy your stay.
