neildiamond Posted March 4, 2011 Report Posted March 4, 2011 Hello NYC Priceline experts, I will be visiting grad schools and Columbia University is on my list. As I am saving and preparing, I'm hoping to snag a deal for around $100/night in Manhattan, but I'm not so sure I can get one. I tried bidding around $95 for 4* hotels in the UWS, then added on CPS, MTW, and HK, but to no luck. Am I aiming too low? I may consider going as far south as MSG since it would only take 10-15 minutes by subway to hit the 116th st. stop I need to get at. Should I look for 3* instead for this price range, and if I'm aiming for 4* what should be the ideal price range I can realistically think about? Thanks!
AaronJB Posted March 5, 2011 Report Posted March 5, 2011 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)What would be your desired budget per night? Unfortunately, Spring is a busier time in NYC and 4* bids will definitely require a higher (and possibly significantly higher) offer price. Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
neildiamond Posted March 5, 2011 Author Report Posted March 5, 2011 I'm shooting for under $100 if possible. If 4* doesn't seem likely then is 3.5*? Thanks!
AaronJB Posted March 5, 2011 Report Posted March 5, 2011 Unfortunately, at the $100 level, I don't think 3.5* is likely for these dates. I think you're probably looking at $120-130 (and possibly a tad more; $115 would be a unlikely lowball) for a 3.5* and probably in the $145-155 (and more in TS) range for a 4*. January-mid March is the slowest season in NYC. Unfortunately, once April starts and the weather starts to get a tad better, rates ramp up.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
neildiamond Posted March 5, 2011 Author Report Posted March 5, 2011 I see. I'm definitely not looking to stay in TS - too touristy and I don't want to deal with those 24/7 crowds. Alright, I'll see what I can get for those ranges.

neildiamond Posted March 10, 2011 Author Report Posted March 10, 2011 That is correct, same dates 4/7-4/11. Thanks! I'm definitely using those links.
thereuare Posted March 11, 2011 Report Posted March 11, 2011 Please keep all posts for the same stay in the same thread. This property has not yet been reported to the board. We usually don't recommend users bid this area, especially at the lower star levels, as this zone can go pretty far north into areas which are a bit less safe vs. midtown as well as not well located for the average visitor.Could you possibly increase your budget to $120 or perhaps a bit more as i think you have a chance at getting something in midtown around this amount. Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board.
