ulmer_traveler Posted March 3, 2011 Report Posted March 3, 2011 I need 1 room in London fm June 1st to June 7th in London and I am interested in 5* Westminster area, most likely Marriott County Hall, started bidding at $140 and ended up at $210, all bids rejected, any special thing going on London in this week? Need advice on other areas...
AaronJB Posted March 4, 2011 Report Posted March 4, 2011 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)Sorry to hear that your bids haven't been accepted. :)Are you seeing anything of interest on HOTWIRE for these dates? What would be your desired budget per night?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
ulmer_traveler Posted March 4, 2011 Author Report Posted March 4, 2011 Hi AaronJB,Thanks for your reply and advice! My budget is anything bellow $200/night for 5* or I can accept going down to 4* but than at max $150 :) :) I can check Hotwire as well but I saw a win just one week before for $155 for the Marriott County Hall, that's the property I am interested, so I was wondering what is the best strategy...We can also consider changing the area if the other wins are good enough...BR
yellowdog Posted March 4, 2011 Report Posted March 4, 2011 ulmer_travelerYou can't bid on a specific hotel when using PRICELINE. You have to be able to accept any hotel in the zone at the star rating (or higher) you select. If you're trying to target a specific property then HOTWIRE can often be a better option if you're successfully able to identify it based upon the star rating and amenities shown before your purchase... the trade-off is that HOTWIRE usually costs a little more than PRICELINE, so you need to decide what is most important to you for a given stay, the lowest possible price OR the ability to take an educated guess as to the property you may receive.Let us know how we can help you further. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Yellowdog.
ulmer_traveler Posted March 4, 2011 Author Report Posted March 4, 2011 Hi yellowdog, I am familiar with the Priceline concept and this is the only Win in the Westminster area, that's why I am targeting that, but I guess the dates are already booked. Hotwire is asking for $300+ for a 5* in this area and this is too much for my budget. Question is, does it make sense to keep pushing for a little bit above $200 to get that property (I mean Marriott County Hall) ? Retail price is at 212 GPB for that weekend...
yellowdog Posted March 4, 2011 Report Posted March 4, 2011 I am familiar with the Priceline concept and this is the only Win in the Westminster area, that's why I am targeting that, but I guess the dates are already booked. But we don't know if there's a new hotel or a property that has been re-rated by PRICELINE and isn't reported to the board.does it make sense to keep pushing for a little bit above $200 to get that propertyI can't advice you here. This is your call and how much you whant this hotel. If you can get it arround $200 would it be a good deal for you? If yes, go for it.Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Yellowdog.
Romelle Posted March 4, 2011 Report Posted March 4, 2011 Your dates are so far out. If I were bidding the situation, I'd just bid up to a comfortable level for now and keep trying that in case the hotels give some more rooms to Priceline inventory. When I got more to the last minute, then I'd make the decision as to pushing higher, trying other zones, or stepping back to the 4* level. (Well, with my budget, the choice would probably be to step back to the 3* level, but the logic is the same.)RomelleAnd the currency exchange rate might improve? One never knows. One's $$ bid would translate to more British pounds then.As to other areas, you might look at the list of reported wins for London, and then look at the reviews for those hotels in the Hotel Review area.
