Todtravler Posted March 2, 2011 Report Posted March 2, 2011 I am trying to decide between a 4.5* in Lombard - Oak Brook - Downers Grove area Hotel with: Smoke Free Rooms Fitness Center Pool(s) Restaurant(s) Business Center High-Speed Internet Access Golf Nearby Tennis Nearby It has a 95% hotwire approval rating and 4 out of 5 tripadvisor ratingPriced at $87 per night for March 13-15.The second choice is:4* in Magnificent Mile Area - Streeterville area hotel with: Fitness Center Restaurant(s) Business Center High-Speed Internet Access It has a 95% hotwire approval rating with no trip advisor rating and is $84 per night for March 13-15.I am trying to figure out which hotel these may be since I will be traveling with a two year old and would like to research possibilities of the locations for bed bug reports. I realize that Chicago has a high concentration of the critters in the area, and hotels are a haven for them. Thanks in advance,B
AaronJB Posted March 2, 2011 Report Posted March 2, 2011 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)I haven't seen too many bed bug reports in the Chicago area hotels, although there have been a number of them in NYC.Before starting, where do you need to be in the Chicago area? The Lombard area is pretty far from downtown in the SW burbs.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
Todtravler Posted March 2, 2011 Author Report Posted March 2, 2011 I will have my car since I am driving up. I used to live in the west loop area and traveled extensively throughout the Chicago land area for work, so navigating my way around is second nature. I am taking my son up there to be a tourist for a few days, since most of the time we go there we are visiting friends. We are staying two nights at the Omni downtown that we booked on hotwire for $90 a night and it was free of bed bugs on all registries I looked up. I have now decided to stay a few more days and I was checking out some of the hotels again on hotwire for two more nights. Coming from Cincinnati I know that even our nicest hotels downtown have had issues, and while I have heard little about them out in the suburbs, we are still the #1 city per capita for infestations in the country. Chicago is on most sites listed at #3 or #5. I really want to make this an enjoyable museum, food, and fun filled weekend for my toddler as he now able to engage in more activities. So I am trying to research as much as possible before I book :) I enter the possible hotels that may be in the area listed for bed bug reports and recent activities. I just am still unclear as to which hotels these two listings may be. I think the Lombard may be a Westin, or a Hyatt, but not sure if they would be considered 4* or 4.5*, The 4* in streeterville has me at a complete loss. Thanks,B
AaronJB Posted March 2, 2011 Report Posted March 2, 2011 The 4.5* would likely be the Westin; the 4* could be a few different properties, including the Hard Rock, Hyatt, Westin and Sheraton - all of which have shown with this amenity set.It would be greatly appreciated if you could post the details of your Omni HOTWIRE win (dates, amenities, price before taxes/fees) as a separate thread. Thanks. One unique but minor suggestion would be Wagner Farm in the North suburb of Glenview. Probably not much going on in the Winter and a small place, but free and a working farm in the middle of the burbs. There's also the Long Grove Confectionery Candy Store in the burbs and the nearby factory (factory tours.) Of course, there's the Lincoln Park Zoo/Farm in the Zoo downtown and the nearby Peggy Notabert Nature Center (zoo free, admission for nature center.)The North burbs are also very nice if are looking for a good area outside downtown that would offer free parking (Northbrook/Deerfield/Glenview, although primarily the first two.)Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
Todtravler Posted March 2, 2011 Author Report Posted March 2, 2011 I booked the 4.5* in Lombard and it was the Westin. I got it for $87 per night for two nights for a total of $210.89 with the travel insurance. We will be exploring the suburbs on Sunday and Monday. I will look up the places you suggested. Thanks :)
AaronJB Posted March 2, 2011 Report Posted March 2, 2011 Congrats on your success. :)First-rate deal for this Westin property. Although it's chilly at this point, the Morton Arboretum and Brookfield Zoo are not too far from this property.Thank you for sharing your win and please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.Enjoy your stay.
