I'm going to be visiting friends in LA May 20-22. I'm hoping to win a bid on the Crowne Plaza on priceline. I have 2 questions for anyone out there.

I'm going to offer a price of $65-70, it seems that people are able to book this place for around $68/night historically, is this correct?

Also, are there any other 3.5* hotels in the redondo beach area? I'd rather not get stuck at another place.

BTW, thanks for this service, and I'll be sure to use this website's portal to priceline when I book.

Thanks

You can't bid on a specific hotel when using PRICELINE. You have to be able to accept any hotel in the zone at the star rating (or higher) you select.

If you're trying to target a specific property then HOTWIRE can often be a better option if you're successfully able to identify it based upon the star rating and amenities shown before your purchase... the trade-off is that HOTWIRE usually costs a little more than PRICELINE, so you need to decide what is most important to you for a given stay, the lowest possible price OR the ability to take an educated guess as to the property you may receive.

The question I have is that according to the priceline reservation file (where you can just book a hotel room and pay the set price) the crowne plaza is the only 3.5* property listed on that page. Does that mean the crowne plaza is the only 3.5* property that priceline uses?

I'm just trying to narrow down my options.

Please keep all posts in the same thread since posts are for the same stay.

The retail section is diffrent from the opaque section when it comes to inventory and zones. So you should never compare the two diffrent sections.

Thanks for the speedy replies. I think I'm going to stick with hotwire then because its important I stay in Redondo Beach.

The final question I have is regarding the 4* Portofino Hotel. I see based on the history that people were able to book this property using Hotwire. When I go to the website, no 4* hotels are listed. Do some places hold back inventory until the last minute? Or do prices rarely drop?

I'm wondering if I should book the 3.5* and be done with it now, or if I should wait a little bit to see if I can get the 4*?

There might no be any 4* opaque inventory for your dates. I can't say why there's isn't any 4* listed or if there will be.

I've consistently seen a 4* hotel in Redondo Beach that I assume is the Portofino. Watching it the past week the rate has varied between $110 - $127. Tonight it's at $124.
