Hello, new to the forum so bare with me. I am planning a 2 night (weekday) stay in Key West near the end of May. I have checked Priceline and noticed when filtering Resorts only 2 options are available to book and from reading posts on this forum regarding Key West it seems most winning bids go to the Hyatt. My question is if I am to bid on the Resort style hotels in Key West is it safe to say I would also get the Hyatt or the other listed OR is there a decent chance I may be put in a Resort style hotel not listed when filtering results? Location is important to me and both resorts listed (Hyatt & Casa Marina) are in the area I would like to be. I really appreciate any help anyone can offer. Let me know if you need any additional information.

Thanks!

Welcome to BetterBidding!

Please post your dates for the stay.

You shouldn't compare the hotel in the retail section with the opaque side. It's two diffrent services.

Thanks for the response. I am looking at 5/26-28. I checked out the link and it only listed those same two hotels for Resorts. Does anyone know if there are any other hotels in Key West deemed "Resorts" than the two listed?

So based on that would you feel fairly confident that if bidding on Resort style hotels in Key West you are likely to get one of the two listed?

I did attempt a bid on Priceline yesterday at $83 and was denied. Just tried again at $85 and was denied.

Boards list is only a compilation of hotels that have already been reported on this forum. Hotels are added/removed by Priceline all the time, and star ratings can change at ANY time. As well, the geographic boundaries of an area are subject to change.

I doubt you'll get a 3* for $85 with current rates.

What is your max budget/night before tax/fee?

Thanks for the follow-up. I guess I feel pretty confident since the only things I have read regarding winning bids for Resorts on this board refer to those two hotels.

Ideally, I would like to stay around $125-$150 per night including taxes, fees, & parking.

I was only looking at the Resort filtered hotels. I am new to the bidding option and felt there is too much uncertainty for me on the others. I really like the location of both resort style hotels. If based only on what is listed in retail 4 star would certainly be acceptable as well, but I would be nervous about not ending up at one of the four properties listed.

Fangbone18,

I'm just a member, not a moderator, but thought I'd share my experience with you. Out of maybe 30 or 40 bids in various cities I've several times managed to get hotels not previously reported here. The odds favor getting hotels previously reported, but ....???? You just never know. On the other hand, in a tiny place like Key West there really aren't that many possible hotels so that will help you. You might research some of the other venues like www.tripadvisor.com and www.Expedia.com to see if you can smoke out any other possibilities.

I would say that you'll never get a Resort with this budget. I doubt you'll get a 4*. 3* sounds more realistic with current rates.

I would like to add that your stay is a few moths away so things can change to the better but it can also go the other way.

Everything is about supply and demand. And rates are date specific so you can't compare them this way. Key West can be very expensive. I don't know if there's anything special going on for your dates.

Is it because the time of year? I read numerous posts on this site that state getting the Hyatt resort for between $85 and $125.

I just posted a review for the Fairfield Inn in Key West. It is only a 2 1/2* but felt more like a 3*. My bid was $126 for 2/27/11, but would guess it would be quite a lot lower for your dates.

You might look at your dates for May of 2010 and see how rates are (the Calendar of Wins just above - 14 days at a time). However, things generally seem a little higher this year.

Thanks for the suggestions! I did look back and thought my bids were making sense especially because it was during the week and right before the start of a holiday weekend. Figured rates would jump that Saturday, Sunday, & Monday. From everything I could find on this website and even trip advisor I found wins around that time last year ranging from $85 to $125. Not sure what the difference is this year or why I couldn't get a 4* for that.

Sorry about that. I was still attempting Resort, although I have a feeling at some point I will have to switch to 4*. My budget has increased somewhat. I am looking to spend no more than $150-$160 all in for a spot near Duval.
