dina_cpa Posted April 24, 2005 Report Posted April 24, 2005 I was trying to get 2 rooms on the beach for the Clearwater/St. Petersburg beach area. I first tried on Priceline as follows: I bid a 4* for St. Petersburg Beach starting at $150 going up to $225 (5 free re-bids)with no luck. I then tried to bid a 3* in Clearwater Beach starting at $150 up to $200 (added St. Pete Beach and then 2 more free re-bids) with no luck.I then went to Hotwire and accepted a 4* in St. Pete Beach for $227 with the followings amenities:BeachfrontRestaurant(s)Pool(s)Spa ServicesTennis NearbyBusiness CenterThe hotel was the Tradewind Island Grand. (There was a 3* for $196 on the beach, but we opted for the 4* which was $227.)I was not sure what the 4* was before accepting, since I had not seen it in the postings or hotel list for Hotwire with those amenities. Hope this helps someone in the future! Thanks for a great website!Dina
dina_cpa Posted April 24, 2005 Author Report Posted April 24, 2005 I just searched the hotel's web-site. They have some rooms available for $219.00 per night, so I have submitted a Double Difference Guarante refund. I looked at several on-line travel websites and they are showing no availability or only 1 room available. However, the hotel's own website is showing availability for 2 rooms, so I should be able to get the refund I assume.Dina

dina_cpa Posted May 1, 2005 Author Report Posted May 1, 2005 I received a response from Hotwire and they have refunded $96 back to our credit card for the Double Difference.Normally we would not pay anywhere near $227 a night for a hotel, but there was not much availability for hotels on the beach in Clearwater/St. Petersburg for Memorial Day Weekend! Even the Holiday Inns and Travelodges were asking $250 to $329+ per night.
