yanks23321 Posted February 18, 2011 Report Posted February 18, 2011 Dear Better Bidding and Anyone else, Hi, I am new to this forum and started reading a bunch of other posts. I wanted to get your opinion, I am looking for a 4 star and up, hotel in manhattan for March 27-28. They have this deal on gilt for the andaz on 5th avenue for $245 a night. I wanted to know what is the best way to get a good deal?Thank You,Steve

yanks23321 Posted February 20, 2011 Author Report Posted February 20, 2011 Okay done, read the message and clicked the link.
thereuare Posted February 20, 2011 Report Posted February 20, 2011 You can almost certainly beat this deal depending upon what your needs are for this stay...Is there a certain area you're looking to stay in? Is your goal the least expensive 4* or better for this stay OR are you willing to pay a little more to have a guess as to which hotel you may receive? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. yanks23321 Posted February 20, 2011 Author Report Posted February 20, 2011 Okay so in regards to area I was looking for either times square or fifth avenue, in order to be near the broadway shows and shopping. To tell you the truth my only worry with priceline is that I will get a not so nice hotel and that matters to me. Depending on how much more, I would be willing to pay a little more, I both want to save money and stay somewhere I will enjoy. Someone posted about winning a bid in the Sheraton New York (I think it was) and saying people weren't so happy with it, but based on the pics I thought it was nice. Also the andaz looked nice. My main thing is to get a nice hotel I will enjoy. Someone told me a few nice hotels were the Marriott in times square, plaza hotel on 5th, the Setai on 5th, and the W hotel. What's funny is the Setai on 5th is unrated on priceline so when you choose 4 stars and up it doesn't show up since it's unrated?!?!?!?Thank You,Steve
thereuare Posted February 20, 2011 Report Posted February 20, 2011 You can't use the 'retail' version of PRICELINE to determine what you will get thru the 'name your own price' side of their service, the two sides of their business each user a different universe of hotels. What are your thoughts of the Benjamin for $165/nite... the Grand Hyatt or Inter-Continental Barclay for $150 (i'm not sure which you will get, you would need to be open to either, not your choice of which you would like), St. Gild The Court for $145/nite, or an 'unknown' Times Square hotel with a 4.0/5.0 Tripadvisor rating for $130/nite... or if you're open to any 4* hotel in the midtown area you can probably get something for ~$100-$120.Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know your thoughts and we'll take it from there. yanks23321 Posted February 22, 2011 Author Report Posted February 22, 2011 Just a quick question, the Grand Hyatt and Intercontinental are in different areas? One is in Times square and the other in Grand central? So how can I guarantee one of those? Also how can I make sure there is a king bed?
thereuare Posted February 22, 2011 Report Posted February 22, 2011 Just a quick question, the Grand Hyatt and Intercontinental are in different areas? One is in Times square and the other in Grand central?I was referring to the Inter-Continental Barclay which is in the MTE zone.So how can I guarantee one of those? Also how can I make sure there is a king bed?You can't, unless you choose a hotel thru HOTWIRE which shows the 'bed type' option, which allows you to choose the room configurations, usually for an additional feel. You can call the hotel you receive after your purchase and request a specific room type, but the hotel may not be able, or willing, to accommodate your request for a King bed.Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. yanks23321 Posted February 23, 2011 Author Report Posted February 23, 2011 Okay so the dates are possibly changing to 3/20-3/21. Now I went on HOTWIRE and I saw that time square with 4 star and up with the amenities restaurant, business center, gym, and internet in the map, on PRICELINE there are only three hotels that have those amenities and in that area (meaning hotwire verison of what is considered times square.) It is for 128 + 32 for taxes and fees and the three hotel that came up in priceline are the westin, renaissance times square, and the muse new york. So can I assume that it would be one of those? Also they only show me 4 amenities? I like the intercontinental but don't know about the grand hyatt is it nice? and how can I guarantee forsure one of those? Sorry for being so bothersome.
thereuare Posted February 23, 2011 Report Posted February 23, 2011 You can't compare PRICELINE and HOTWIRE in the manner that you are... each rates hotels differently (so hotels don't always have the same star rating thru each service), uses a different universe of hotels (so some hotels may participate with one service and not the other), and the majority of hotels in NYC offer Restaurant, Fitness, Internet, Business... i suspect there are many more than what your search is revealing. If you change the dates is just a one nite stay now? Are you changing the dates due to the hotels/prices offered or 3/27 may no longer work for your plans? When will your plans be firm? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. yanks23321 Posted February 24, 2011 Author Report Posted February 24, 2011 Okay so the dates are for sure 3/27-3/28 that works best with my schedule. I want a nice hotel and I am willing to pay around 150 total. So what should i do now?

yanks23321 Posted February 25, 2011 Author Report Posted February 25, 2011 Which zone(s) are you willing to accept? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. So after reading your thread about hotels in times square and the one about the priceline zones, I figured times square (I think it's also midtown west), midtown east, and centeral south. I liked how the intercontinental barclay looked so something similar is what i am aiming for. Also the westin looked nice.
yanks23321 Posted February 25, 2011 Author Report Posted February 25, 2011 Which zone(s) are you willing to accept? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. They have this deal thru travel zoo for the millenium broadway in times square on 44th. Its a free upgrade so a superior king bed room for $173 inc. tax, what do you think?
thereuare Posted February 26, 2011 Report Posted February 26, 2011 It depends what you want for this stay and how much you value a superior room as an upgrade... HOTWIRE has a 4* hotel in the Times Square zone (could be the Millennium but the Crowne PLaza and InterContinental Times Square are possibilities as well) for $126/nite... a 4* hotel in the MTC zone for $137 and a 4* hotel in the MTE zone for $145/nite (best guess the InterContnental Barclay or Grand Hyatt)... all of these would be about the same price point or slightly less. You could also likely beat some of these rates by bidding on PRICELINE, but give up having a guess as to which hotel you will receive. So i don't think the special above at the Millennium is really that much of a deal. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Also when you say those prices are they with tax included or not?
AaronJB Posted February 27, 2011 Report Posted February 27, 2011 Prices noted on the board are not with tax/fees. That information is shown during the check-out process on PRICELINE and HOTWIRE.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

I just want to make sure I get the best deal i am able. Also is it forsure between those three hotels the $126 or it can be others?

Also is it forsure between those three hotels the $126 or it can be others?Okay so I looked more into the Millennium Broadway Hotel (it took me a little longer to find because you don't notice the two "n" in the name) and first of all it's a 3.5 star hotel and I found that the comman comment between most of the reviews was that the beds were hard. Now I need soft beds so that is an issue for me. Now I am not sure if they were all talking about the standard room and that the superior room would be different or both rooms. I would like a 4 star hotel with a comfortable bed and I am willing to pay in the $150/per night range before taxes. How do I go about getting that and is there a way to know at least which hotels it can be and not these 3 hotels and possibly a whole bunch of others???? Sorry to be a bother and your site is awesome and thank you for the patience.
AaronJB Posted February 28, 2011 Report Posted February 28, 2011 The Millennium Broadway is a 4* on a couple of services, but is generally considered to be a 3.5*.There's definitely no way to ensure a particular hotel via PRICELINE - if you bid for a 4* (for example) in a zone, you have to be willing to accept any 4* in that zone (or if you bid for a lower star rating, you have to be willing to accept a higher star rating if your bid gets upgraded, which happens occasionally.)With HOTWIRE, you can make an educated guess as to which hotels are showing based upon the information given (and the list of HOTWIRE hotels reported to the board can be found here), but that is no guarantee as information on HOTWIRE changes often. While no guarantees, HOTWIRE would be a better choice in this case, as you could try to match a listing with the list at the link - while not guaranteed 100%, at least you would have a better chance of getting a hotel you would be comfortable with than PRICELINE.)Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

So how does hotwire base their star rating so that I can try to compile an updated hotel list for myself. I honestly just want a nice enjoyable hotel. A comfortable bed and clean room at affordable price. Do you know if there is a way to see reviews for the Superior room at the Millennium Broadway hotel?
yanks23321 Posted February 28, 2011 Author Report Posted February 28, 2011 Hi, I have posted on the priceline forum and figured since this is a hotwire question to open a post here. I was looking for a hotel in Manhattan for one night - 3/27-3/28. I am looking for a 4* & up in the times square area and around. When I did a search using your link this is what I got.Times Square - 4* - $129/ per night - Amenities - Fitness, Restaurant, Business, & High Speed InternetCentral Park - 4* - $133/ per night - Amenities - Boutique Hotel, Smoke-Free, Fitness, Business, & High Speed InternetMidtown Central - 4* - $137/ per night - Amenities - Smoke-Free, Fitness, & High Speed InternetMidtown East - 4* - $149/ per night - Amenities - Fitness, Restaurant, Business, High Speed Internet, & Tennis (nearby)Midtown East - 4 1/2* - $210/ per night - Amenities - Fitness, Restaurant, Business, High Speed Internet, & SpaCan you tell me what hotels these can be? Thank You.
AaronJB Posted February 28, 2011 Report Posted February 28, 2011 My guesses:4* TS - possibly the Crowne Plaza, Millennium Broadway or Intercontinental TS, although I'd lean towards one of the former two.4* CP - likely the On the Ave.4* MTE - possibly either the Intercontinental Barclay or Grand Hyatt.4* MTC - possible match for the Cassa.4.5* MTE - possible match for the Benjamin. Please keep all posts regarding this trip in this thread. Thanks.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

So would I be getting something similar?4* CP for on the ave it looks nice but trip advisor has 3.5* for it.
