LittleBear1 Posted February 28, 2011 Report Posted February 28, 2011 Hello! I'm a first time user of priceline and would like to get a 4* hotel in the midtown West (MTW) area of New York for 4 adults in 2 rooms staying for 5 nights between 25th May- 30th May.Obviously we'd like to get this for as cheap as possible and are thinking of trying for a max of around $145 a night including taxes etc or $130 without taxes etc. From the posts I have read it seems it is difficult (impossible) to get 2 rooms on priceline in the same transaction, is this right? If so, what is the best way around this, I really do not want the two couples to end up staying in different hotels.Do you think this is doable? What would be a good strategy for approaching this?We would also consider the following areas.... Central Park South, Midtown East, Empire State Building, Upper East Side, Times Square or Upper West side and would not like to go under 3* if possible within the budget.Do let me know if I need to be more specific before bidding or if you need more info to suggest a stratgey? Many Thanks
AaronJB Posted March 1, 2011 Report Posted March 1, 2011 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)Two rooms should not be too much of an issue on most days; getting up to 4+ rooms may be a bit problematic, especially on busier days. Definitely bid for both rooms at once/in one transaction, as bidding in separate transactions could (as you note) result in two different hotels.Unfortunately, the Spring is one of the busiest times of the year in NYC and prices are definitely on the higher side. Tourism and conventions also may be combined with graduations in late May, as well - not sure if that's the case on these dates, but graduations at one or more colleges may add to higher rates.Unfortunately, while $130 a night is worth trying (especially in ESB/MTE), I think it very well may not be enough for a 4* for these dates, given regular and HOTWIRE rates. In terms of 3.5*, I'll note that a couple of the 3.5*'s in MTE (the Millennium UN and Hilton Manhattan East) are a bit far East in the MTE) area and CPS at the 3.5* level has the possibility of the Hudson, which is known for particularly small rooms (even for NYC.)Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
