going to NYC 3/12-3/19. would like to stay in or around midtown. Priceline-began bidding 3.5 stars $95 MTW. added hells kitchen and $100. added central park south and 105. added chelsea and 110. added MTE and stayed at 110. finally changed to 3 stars and $85. all rejected. will try again tomorrow beginning at $85 and adding maybe Upper east and West side, although these are a long way from where we want to be during the day. we'll see.

thanks better bidding for the wonderful site full of useful info. I used the links to access priceline.

Welcome to Betterbidding. :)

I wouldn't recommend going to Upper East/Upper West unless really necessary, as there is the possibility you could end up towards the Upper Upper West or Upper Upper East, and if you want to be in Midtown, that gets rather far out of the way. Is ESB of interest? What would be your max budget per night?

I have seen rooms on Expedia for 125 to 150 in 3* boutique hotels. probably wouldn't bid more than 120 on an unknown when I can get a known and usually tripadvisor rated property for the 140 to 150 range. I saw where someone got Club Quarters in soho for $82 beginning on 3/20. and to answer your question, yes, ESB would be great. pretty much anywhere around or below lower half central park would be fine. any thoughts?

Please list which zones, by PRICELINE name, you're willing to accept at each star level and your maximum bid... we'll then suggest a strategy for you to follow.

Sub-$100 wins in NYC do happen, but they're usually only available during times of extremely low occupancy, and the odds are not that high that a hotel would have such low occupancy for an entire week this time of year and just a few weeks before the stay commences. (it's certainly possible... not something i would expect)

Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.

zones I would like to occupy:

CPS, Chelsea, SoHo, ESB, Hells kitchen, MSG, MTE, MTW, Times Square.

3* 120

3.5* 150

4* 150- Not really interested in a 4* per se. just if it happens.

above 150, actually cost close to 200/night with the 23% taxes and priceline fees. like to keep it closer to 150/night with fees if possible.

and I am using the PRICELINE link to bid.

thanks

I'd proceed higher by $5's at the 3.5* level, although I will note that a couple of the 3.5*'s in the MTE area are rather far East in that zone (the Hilton Manhattan East and the Millennium UN) and the 3.5* Hudson in the CPS zone has very, very small rooms. No hotels have yet to be reported in Hell's Kitchen, and few hotels fall within the boundaries of that zone. Hopefully you'll be able to get a 3.5* w/in budget, but if not, you can then start over at the 3* level.

Addendum to failed bid @$110

Began bidding Dates 3/12-3/19. began $120, increased to $135 adding zones interested in staying. won world center hotel, 3.5*, at $135. very happy with results. saving at least $75/night based on published rates. Thanks betterbidding for your excellent resource. Love the link which takes you directly the bidding screen.
