Welcome to BetterBidding!

If you're looking for Hilton-type accommodations i'd stick with the 4* level to begin. If you go to PRICELINE and look at a map, would you be comfortable with a hotel anywhere within the shaded boundaries of the MTE, MTW, TS, CPS zones? NOTE that the MTE zone does go a bit further east then your 15 minute walking requirement, but all of the 'known' 4* hotels in this zone are close enough to your parameters, imo (although there is always the risk that you'll be the first to report a new hotel to the board or a hotel previously reported but now upgraded to the 4* level) If you decide to start with 4* biding and later need to drop to 3.5*, then we'll have to re-visit which zones are acceptable.

Also, the ESB zone may be a little far out of your walk to Times Square requirement, but i think this may be one of the more likely midtown areas you might be able to get something within your budget.

Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.

Thank you for your advice. I would be comfortable with MTE, MTW, TS, CPS and also ESB. I presume the more areas I have, the higher the probability of having a good deal.

Hopefully can start bidding soon on PRICELINE, could you suggest a sensible starting price? Is it possible to use HOTWIRE at all as I price guide? Found 4* ESB on HOTWIRE for around $197 per night.
