Priceline Hotel: Kentucky Derby

Anyone try to snag a hotel in Louisville for Kentucky Derby? Dates 5/5/- 5/8. Not sure any hotels would even allow Priceline's Name Your Own Price for such a busy weekend. Thoughts?

Why not try if your plans are firm? If it's a big event would bidding early be the best thing (in my book).

If anyone is Naming own price on priceline for Kentucky Derby hotels this information may help you:

Downtown Louisville, KY is only area of priceline map that offers 4 and 3.5 star hotels

4 star: $243

3.5 star: $235

3 star: $213

2.5 star: $155

All bids were rejected.

I am doubting many hotels have given priceline rooms for this weekend.

There's no way to know if more inventory will come online towards the dates, but given the size of the event, I would definitely try to lock something in as I think hotels will hold back inventory looking for last-minute walk-ins to pay full price.

I live about 45 miles from Churchill Downs and have been to about 20 KY Derby's. Since the majority of attendees arrive via some form of public transportation, look at other areas in Louisville to stay. Best way to get there and back from the KY Derby is to ride a cab. There will be lanes open just for cabs and buses going to the Derby. The cab lines after the Derby moves much faster than the bus lines. If you get there "very" early in the morning you may be able to park in someone's yard for a high dollar price but I don't recommend that option.
