brolson7619 Posted February 22, 2011 Report Posted February 22, 2011 Wife and I are staying in NYC in May (1-3) and have never been there. We want to be where it's most convenient for all of the first-timer New York sights and sounds. Would our idea bet be Times Square? If not, where else?We would love 3.5-4*. Any idea where in terms of dollars we should start bidding on Priceline? And what districts? It's a Sunday, Monday and Tuesday overnight stay. Thanks!
thereuare Posted February 23, 2011 Report Posted February 23, 2011 Welcome to BetterBidding! It's really not necessary to stay directly in Times Square, at the 4* level most midtown locations (MTE, MTW, TS, ESB and CPS) all work out fine for the average user.... at the 3.5* level there are some zones/hotels you may want to avoid but we'll broach that subject if/when you bid for 3.5*.With the above noted, and read thru this Hotels Near Times Square thread, it's ultimately your vacation so you have to decide what it is which will make you happy this stay. What is your expected budget (per nite before taxes and fees) and we'll be able to give an idea of what zones and/or star ratings may be possible. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. brolson7619 Posted February 23, 2011 Author Report Posted February 23, 2011 To be honest I have no idea where to start. $100/night realistic or not for Midtown East or Midtown West for a Sunday, Monday and Tuesday stay (4 stars)? Or would I have a better chance at 3.5 star. I don't plan on spending too much time in our room, but want a nice place to crash after a long day of sightseeing and walking, and want it to be safe and not a dump!
brolson7619 Posted February 23, 2011 Author Report Posted February 23, 2011 Willing to go higher than $100 obviously, but don't want to short myself. Also willing to try to lowball and work my way up. Any help is appreciated! Great site, by the way.
thereuare Posted February 23, 2011 Report Posted February 23, 2011 May is an expensive time in NYC and based upon current rates, a 4* is likely going to cost you ~$175-$210... a 3.5* in the $165-190 range. Although you mention you're willing to go higher, this is quite a bit from the $100 you've already bid, but i'm not sure just how much higher... we can suggest a strategy for whatever amount you choose, but based upon currently expected prices, what is your maximum bid and would you want to try for a 4* or for a 3.5* for a little less money? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know your thoughts and we'll take it from there.EDIT TO ADD: Sunday is usually a very slow nite in NYC, so you could get something less expensive for Sunday and then change hotels for the more expensive Mon and Tues nites, but not sure if you want to change hotels on a 3 nite stay.
