CMG Posted February 23, 2011 Report Posted February 23, 2011 For possible trips to Chicago, I often check the convention and event calendars to get a sense of supply/demand for particular dates(http://www.choosechicago.com/events/Pages/calendar.aspx). Unfortunately, looks like an orthodontist convention with 20,000 attendees is taking place 5/13 - 5/17. Some smaller conferences are also in town, including a 600-attendee conference 5/12 - 5/14 at the Hyatt Regency, which is a large capacity hotel that might otherwise tend to release cheaper rooms to Priceline. But check back with the experts on this site if interested in bidding strategies. By the way, I do see a 3* Loop hotel on Hotwire for $119 over those dates. If potentially interested, you could use the Hotwire section of this website to help ID it.
shawnt_21 Posted February 23, 2011 Author Report Posted February 23, 2011 Do you think its best to wait to the dates get closer (30 days out) when the blocks are lifted for these rooms?Looking to stay under $100 for a four star. Do you think its best to wait until we get closer to the date of 5/13-5/15. I've seen that they are having a large convention during that week.
thereuare Posted February 23, 2011 Report Posted February 23, 2011 Given the convention i would think anything at $100 or under for a 4* Downtown hotel would be a pretty good win and i would continue to bid 2-3x per week (any more than that you may get frustrated). If you are accepted (which doesn't look very likely given current prices) i would think there is more risk to rates rising from there then heading much lower. However, realize that at current prices you're fighting an uphill battle for a 4* hotel at $100... this isn't to say that rates won't drop (or move higher) in the future, but just a 'warning' so you don't get too disappointed with any PRICELINE rejected bidding cycles. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes.
