jasy Posted February 20, 2011 Report Posted February 20, 2011 Hi All,Need your advice, looking for 4 rooms from 5/24 - 5/30, hoping not to pay over $140per night.Have been trying for the past 2 weeks and have bid on almost all zones but to no avail. Hoping to get a hotel in TS, MTW, MTE, CPS. Please help and thanks in advance!!
thereuare Posted February 21, 2011 Report Posted February 21, 2011 Welcome to BetterBidding!Spring is high season in NYC and your bids would typically be at the low end of the expected range for this time of year... add to the mix you need 4 rooms, nearly a one week stay, and it's not surprising that $140 isn't enough at this time. While i don't think it will help much at the moment, have you considered also including the ESB zone in your 4* bidding? What is your maximum bid for this stay? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. jasy Posted February 21, 2011 Author Report Posted February 21, 2011 Hi, thanks for your quick reply! do you have an idea of what rates were last year? i think the maximum that i will go would be around 180/190 a night..Yes i have tried ESB as well. Any strategy you think i should use? Thanks again!
Romelle Posted February 21, 2011 Report Posted February 21, 2011 do you have an idea of what rates were last year? You can use the Priceline and Hotwire Calendar of Wins (straight above on this page), entering last year's dates and selecting New York-Priceline. You also might look at New York-Hotwire. The maximum amount of days at one time is 14. Also, if you want to follow up on a particular win, you can click on its calendar line reporting and it will link you to the original post. FYI, rates seem to often be higher this year. I've read of "sticker shock" in lots of posts.Romelle
jasy Posted February 21, 2011 Author Report Posted February 21, 2011 Hi Romelle,I've seen last years' prices and im surprised to see that many of them were actually lower or equal to 140. Would you think that if i get nearer the date to bid that i would stand a higher chance? or should i split my bids up? into 2 blocks of 3 nights/3 nights? would that help?thanks for your time!
thereuare Posted February 21, 2011 Report Posted February 21, 2011 Nobody can say if rates will come down closer to your stay... or go even higher; it's all based upon supply/demand and how actual bookings come in relative to expectations. For more on this subject you can see the related link in our PRICELINE FAQ.While looking at a previous year for the same time period is a good idea, there is no always a perfect correlation to the current year... there could always have been conferences, conventions, events, festivals, etc which take place one year but on slightly different dates the next. The situation with NYC is that the hotel market was hit pretty hard in the economic downturn and there were a LOT of unsold rooms, even during historically strong time periods, which accounted for the very low rates we saw last year and the year before. While the economy (and NYC hotel market) is still not very strong, it has recovered quite nicely, and we're seeing higher rates for the upcoming high-season vs. the last few years. You can try SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID but, at the moment, i don't think it will help much. To move forward bidding on MTE, MTW, CPS, TS and ESB... how high are you willing to bid at this time? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
