Darci Posted February 20, 2011 Report Posted February 20, 2011 Hi,Wondering if I can get a bidding strategy for the following?Interested in a 4*, Times Square/Midtown West/Midtown East.2 Nights, 4/14 and 4/15. Budget $150.I have my rebid zones of LGA/LIC/JFK/Bronx/Brooklyn.Any tips appreciated!Thanks
thereuare Posted February 21, 2011 Report Posted February 21, 2011 Welcome to BetterBidding! Is this for a one nite stay or two? Also, it appears you're using the 'retail' version of PRICELINE to determine your re-bid zones and that's not correct, as the retail version of their site uses a different universe of hotels as well as different zone names and boundaries. See this Priceline Re-Bidding Explained thread and see if you can determine your FIVE re-bid zones.. if not, post back and we'll break it down further for you. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Darci Posted February 21, 2011 Author Report Posted February 21, 2011 This is for a two night stay, thanks. Check in Thu. 4/14, check out Sat. 4/16Also, after my post I did realize my error on the rebid zones. I'm set now other than an actual bid strategy I would certainlyappreciate a plan of attack! Thanks again
thereuare Posted February 21, 2011 Report Posted February 21, 2011 Before suggesting a strategy, is there a reason you're not including CPS and/or ESB in your bidding? These zones are usually pretty convenient for the average visitor and including more zones increases the number of hotels able to accept your bid. Please confirm if you want to include these zones in addition to the three above or if you just want to stick with the original three and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow (also, feel free to confirm your re-bid zones with the board if you'd like)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Darci Posted February 21, 2011 Author Report Posted February 21, 2011 After looking the zones over I think I would like to include CPS but not ESB. If I end up completely failing, then I would try again the next day and maybe include ESB as well, but I'd like to tryfor the following 4 zones, MTW,MTE,TS,CPS. I have the following 5 rebid zones, BROOK,CI,LIS,MSG,UES. Dates are 2 nights accomodations starting on 4/14. With these parameters I would appreciate a strategy. As I mentioned, if I were unable to get a room, then I can respond again, with my desire to add another zone. I'm hoping that your suggested strategy comes throughand I can come back to report a win! Either way, thanks in advance for any advice you are able to give! Thanks
thereuare Posted February 21, 2011 Report Posted February 21, 2011 You have your re-bid zones correct, but always double check them just for bidding to make sure that nothing has changed.Using your FIVE re-bid zones at the 4* level i'd try as follows:Select 4* MTE and MTW...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* TS and CPS...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTW, MTE, TS, CPS...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. Darci Posted February 21, 2011 Author Report Posted February 21, 2011 Thanks for the plan.Unfortunately I was not successful in getting an accepted bid.If I am to keep my zones as is, how much up in budget do you recommend that I go to try again in 24hrs?Thanks
thereuare Posted February 22, 2011 Report Posted February 22, 2011 At current prices my guess is that you'll need to be somewhere in the $165-$185 range to be successful... if you let us know your maximum bid we'll offer a revised strategy. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Darci Posted February 22, 2011 Author Report Posted February 22, 2011 Okay. I guess I'll put my ceiling at 185 for my attempts later today. Is it simply a matter of raising all of my bids by 35 and using the same strategy? Thanks again
thereuare Posted February 22, 2011 Report Posted February 22, 2011 I'd try again as follows:Select 4* MTE and MTW...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* TS and CPS...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE and TS...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTW and CPS...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE and CPS...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $155, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* TS and MTW...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $155, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTW, MTE, TS, CPS...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $180, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $185Although unlikely rates have changed downward in the last 24 hours, at least the above still gives you a chance to win something at lower levels if rates have changed... yet still enables you to slowly increase your bid to your new maximum. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Darci Posted February 23, 2011 Author Report Posted February 23, 2011 I'd try again as follows:....Select 4* MTW, MTE, TS, CPS...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $180, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $185 "Your Price Was AcceptedCongratulations, your price of $170 was accepted by Intercontinental The Barclay. thereuare Posted February 23, 2011 Report Posted February 23, 2011 Congratulations on your success!Glad to see you were successful and are pleased with the results. You're also near my often recommended Ess-A-Bagel (Third Ave at 51st St) which has one of the best bagels in the city, makes for a nice, and relatively inexpensive, breakfast among local NYers.Thank you for sharing your win with the board and helping to spread the word about BetterBidding :)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Enjoy your stay.
