westcan Posted February 20, 2011 Report Posted February 20, 2011 Needed to be in Santo Domingo for 1 night Febuary 16. Had previously paid $65+taxes/night at the 4* Hiltion(i think, could have been $60), and $70+taxes/night at the 4* Intercontinental.Bid $55 and was turned down. The last few times I have been bidding, I noticed a new priceline feature, (at least to me) where they come back to you with a $15 increase offer on your bid, and you can bid right away without waiting the 24 hours. So my next bid I put in at $65 thinking that if it didn't work they would come back with an $80 offer to bid on.Unfortunately they offered a $20 increase, so I was now bidding $85. Hoping for the Hilton I took the chance and did win, but at the Intercontinental V Centenario. It is a good hotel as well, but I find the Hilton newer. Atlhough the Intercontinental has free wireless in the rooms; the Hilton does not.Anyway, the price I paid was $85/night + taxes for 1 night, or $106.63 with taxes.Used the PRICELINE.com link from this forum
AaronJB Posted February 20, 2011 Report Posted February 20, 2011 Congrats on your success. :)Very nice deal for this Intercontinental property! PRICELINE occasionally offers "counter-offers" as a response to the bid. The actual required number is often somewhere in-between the last bid and the counter-offer, and re-bidding can be used to go up slowly to see if the service will accept an in-between price.Thank you for sharing your win and using the site's PRICELINE link.Enjoy your stay.
