WitsEnd Posted February 19, 2011 Report Posted February 19, 2011 Started at $55 for a 4* Downtown Sarasota, Tue 2/22/11 - Thu 2/24/11Since none of the other areas offer a 4*, I kept adding zones and rebidding, up to $81, which was still rejected.Somewhat interesting, considering an earlier poster today won this hotel (the Hyatt Regency, which is the only 4 star) at $57, quite by accident. Perhaps the one-day bid is more likely to win.
AaronJB Posted February 19, 2011 Report Posted February 19, 2011 Sarasota unfortunately is a somewhat thinner market (only one 4*) than some other major Florida cities, although I think there are some new hotels in the works there. That said, this would appear to be a case of the two days being an issue. On HOTWIRE, if you look up both nights, there is a 4* for $190 per night. If you look up just the first night it's $100. If you look up just the second night by itself it's $227. Oddly, there doesn't seem to be any variation in regular rates across the two days.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
zokoda Posted February 20, 2011 Report Posted February 20, 2011 I got the 4* Hyatt Regency in Sarasota today on 2/22/11 for one night for $57, although I was bidding for a 3* hotel. Interestingly, Priceline offered to extend my stay for one more night at the same rate after they accepted my bid, which would be the exact same dates you are looking for. It must have been your timing - maybe you can try bidding again tomorrow and the hotel will release another room to Priceline.
WitsEnd Posted February 20, 2011 Author Report Posted February 20, 2011 Huh. I was wondering if they offered you that option. I will try again tomorrow, and can also try a one night and hope they would extend that offer. Our plans can be flexible, and we have a couple of back-up options using points. I just thought this would be an easier win! The nature of the Priceline game...
thereuare Posted February 20, 2011 Report Posted February 20, 2011 WitsEnd,Please read your messages and use the requested PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your future bidding and travel purchases.zokoda,The offering to extend your stay is not indicative that PRICELINE is able to get inventory for those additional nites... attempting to extend the stay could result in a room for the additional nite(s) at the same rate, or you could be told that no availability exists, or that there is availability but at a higher price (at which point you'll be given the option to accept or reject the higher price)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. WitsEnd Posted February 21, 2011 Author Report Posted February 21, 2011 UPDATE--Used the PRICELINE link to do a new bid :-)Tried one night, Tue 2/22/2011-2/23/2011 only$57, $67 and $72 were rejected, finally accepted at $77. So I pay $20 more than the guy in the room next to me (see you there zokoda!)...still a nice deal. I it was $94.12 with taxes and fees.Yes, it offered me the chance to extend, so I took it, but was once again rejected. They said I could have a room the second night for $220 (confirming AaronJB's earlier Hotwire research). No thanks!
