NRoss Posted February 17, 2011 Report Posted February 17, 2011 I'll be travelling to London Tuesday March 29 (check in) - Monday April 4 (check out). Looking for 2 rooms at a 5*, preferrably in Mayfair.Current prices for hotels are high mid-week (Tues-Wed-Thurs) then lower for the weekend (Fri-Sat-Sun).Question 1:By breaking up my bid into 2 stays (ie, first bid for Tues-Wed-Thurs and second separate bid for Fri-Sat-Sun) will I get a better rate? I realize the risk of doing this is that we might not get the same hotel, however, I don't mind moving to a different hotel mid-stay.ORAm I likely to get a better rate by bidding on the entire 6 night stay at one hotel?Question 2:Am I likely to get a better rate by spliting up the # of rooms, and bidding for 1 room at a time? (It is also okay if we do not stay at the same hotel.)Thanks for advice!N
thereuare Posted February 17, 2011 Report Posted February 17, 2011 Some hotels now average the price so SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID isn't necessary, but there are still others that don't average the rate over the length of stay in which case it does become beneficial to split. It can also be beneficial to split the stay as the hotel with the lowest price may have the first 3 nites available but not the last 3 nites, another may not have lower lowest price for the last 3 nites but not the first 3 nites... in this situation you can get get the lowest price for each leg of your stay, whereas bidding all nites together you would land a hotel with higher prices then either of these. If bidding on multiple rooms is a factor it's usually more of a negative effect then positive, but 2 rooms is usually a non-factor and i wouldn't let that effect your bidding unless you're unsuccessful at amounts which you think should otherwise be accepted. What is your maximum bid for each leg of this stay? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. NRoss Posted February 18, 2011 Author Report Posted February 18, 2011 Thanks for the reply. No maximum bid in mind at this point. As we're still a few weeks away, we starting at 125$ and went up to 131$ (all declined). Will try again today starting at 135$ and see where that takes us.
thereuare Posted February 18, 2011 Report Posted February 18, 2011 Are you bidding the entire stay together or SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID? Are you only bidding 5* in the Mayfair zone for the time being? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
