Lizzie B Posted February 16, 2011 Report Posted February 16, 2011 Hello all,I am finally brave enough to try Hotwire ( Priceline won't work as we must have 2 beds) and am finding some really high prices for our trip from March 18-23. The price goes up sharply on Sunday and stays high through Wednesday of our check out day. I am seeing prices such as $177.00 for a 3.5 star. This is a family sight seeing trip and we will not be renting a car so easy access to the metro is a necessity. We may rent a car for a one day excursion to Mount Vernon but intend to take the metro/taxis for most of our traveling that can't be done on foot. It will be my husband and I and our 13 year old. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!! An indoor pool would be a huge plus! We usually stay at Embassy Suites type properties but would be willing to give up the free breakfast if we can grab something on the run close to the hotel.Of note: I would prefer to not stay too far out of town and would prefer closer in such as Georgetown, Embassy Row or whatever you think would work. Many thanks! :)
thereuare Posted February 16, 2011 Report Posted February 16, 2011 If you search HOTWIRE for 2adults/1child are there any offerings which are within your desired star rating, zone and budget? (i'd also look at the White House zone to see it would work for your needs) If so, what are the amenities associated wit the offering(s)?Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. thereuare Posted February 16, 2011 Report Posted February 16, 2011 The Hamilton Crowne Plaza has been seen with this amenity combination so that would be my best guess for this one. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how it goes or if we can be of further help. Lizzie B Posted February 16, 2011 Author Report Posted February 16, 2011 Thanks so much for the reply! Are there any other areas you would suggest where we could hop on a metro if needed? I am not familiar with the area at all and the other hotels in the White house capitol hill zone jumped to $233 and more! My husband is not wiling to take the risk of not getting two beds or a sleeper sofa so I will only use HOTWIRE ( of course, from this site!)Which area would be second best? Thanks!Lizzie
thereuare Posted February 16, 2011 Report Posted February 16, 2011 Thru HOTWIRE the most popular zones are (Dupont Circle-Embassy Row) and (White House-Downtown)It's been awhile since i've been to DC, but assuming we're correct on the Crowne Plaza The Hamilton, it's 2 blocks to teh McPherson Square metro stop which has the Blue and Orange lines... would this work for your needs? Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Lizzie B Posted February 17, 2011 Author Report Posted February 17, 2011 Hello again!I found a "South of the Mall" on Hotwire that looks promising. 3 starFitness centerPoolRestaurantLaundry High speed internetIt is going for $186 per night and received a 95% Hotwire approval and 3.5 out of 5.o on Trip AdviserAny clues?? How far out will "south of the Mall" be?If we can still hop on a metro, I suppose it will be o.k.The prices seem to be getting steeper the longer I wait.
carolinamha06 Posted February 17, 2011 Report Posted February 17, 2011 Have you tried lastminutetravel.com? it's similar to hotwire.com there's some info on this site about lastmintuetravel.com as well. you can use the lookup tool to find out what hotels are being offered. i found what they are calling a 4 star rated hotel (i question that) for $136/night in the downtown zone, when i looked it up from the hotel ID found in the URL, it was the Four Points Sheraton @ 1201 K Street NW, Washington, DC. (near the McPherson Square Metro Stop. link to the lookup tool: http://www.betterbidding.com/index.php?showtopic=112137&
thereuare Posted February 17, 2011 Report Posted February 17, 2011 For the HOTWIRE hotel is there also a Business icon?Did you also see the 4* Dupont Circle hotel for $172/nite? The 3.5* White House property for $173? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
Lizzie B Posted February 19, 2011 Author Report Posted February 19, 2011 Hello! I may have found one! This property looks good and the price is right so I would really appreciate your best guess on this one:Through Hotwire for 3/18-3/234 star Dupont Circle/Embassy RowBoutique HotelSmoke FreeFitness CenterPoolRestaurantHigh Speed internet accessBusiness CenterIt goes for $170.00 per night and 95% approval on Hotwire with 4.5 out of 5.0 on Trip Adviser! This looks good so please help as soon as convenient! Many thanks!
Lizzie B Posted February 19, 2011 Author Report Posted February 19, 2011 I just realized I had not entered the 1 child when I pressed search. When I do enter 1 child, the hotel offering disappears but when I enter the 3 adult 0 children the same hotel comes back but at $200.00 instead of $170.00! What should I do and do you think it is the Palomar as well? I think it is the Palomar as this seems like the only one that fits the bill as it is 100% no smoking and has a pool and is considered a boutique hotel.
thereuare Posted February 20, 2011 Report Posted February 20, 2011 The Palomar has not yet been seen with a Smoke Free icon, but as this property is indeed Smoke Free, this icon may have been added since it was last reported to the board... and this would be my best guess as well. If it happens to not be the Palomar, this property has a 4.5/5.0 Tripadvisor rating, so i wouldn't be too concerned with quality for this one. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how it goes or if we can be of further help. It was $170 and then dropped to $168 tonight. It was the Palomar. Please see my post above. I can't thank you (and better bidding) enough for posting this. I hope you get the hotel you want. Who knows, maybe we'll see you there!
Lizzie B Posted March 2, 2011 Author Report Posted March 2, 2011 Hello all, thanks for your help but I ended up booking directly at the Carlyle Suites. It did not have a pool or free breakfast but it had the location we preferred at the price we could handle. Never could find anything that sounded like what we wanted when I entered 2 adults 1 child in the Hotwire search. Really was hoping for the Palomar, but I called directly and they had no more queen/queen rooms left and no sleeper sofas in the king rooms.
